Young anarchist killed by the Police in Bogotá, Colombia
Today the doctors announced the death of Nicolás David Neira Alvares, a 15 year old who was marching in the anarchist block the past 1st of May. Like never before in the past few years, many young people decided to come together to protest against capitalism.
The huge demonstration which included union workers, farmers, students, unemployed people and activists, marched in a non-violent manner on one of the main streets of Bogotá. The demonstration not only remembered those who were killed by the State in Chicago, but also denounced the current precarious economical and social conditions of Colombia, demanded a halt to the Free Trade Treatise and made public the atrocities that are being committed by the current fascist government. Atrocities that also occurred this day when the ESMAD (police) started to throw tear gas without any reason, and after one explosion, initiated a violent repression hitting the protesters with wooden sticks and rubber bullets.
It was precisely during this repression that various people were severely injured, including Nicolás who was beaten up on the head by the police until he lost consciousness. Approximately 8 policemen surrounded Nicolás and covered themselves with masks impeding the remaining protesters to see their faces and to rescue him from their hands.
After sometime, Nicolás was finally taken by some comrades to a Hospital in the Westside of Bogotá. There he waited for some hours until he was taken to the Salud Coop Hospital were he remained in critical conditions until today.
During this week, many people tried to denounce the situation, writing articles in the alternative media, helping the family, organizing a public sue and protesting in the streets. It is now known that many of these persons are being harassed by the police. Right now the media are covering the whole affair by trying to hide the real facts. The ESMAD are saying that they never beat the protesters.
The sad death of Nicolás and the violent repression done by the police is the consequence of this unjust system that seeks to silence all those voices that are trying to create a world of freedom and equality. All this information must be urgently known and divulgated. We don’t want to stay silent.
