A turkish couple living in germany want to name there son Osama Bin Laden. But in Germany namesmust be evaluted to make sure that it isn't questionable, like
Hitler or self degrading. I didn't hear much else about it so can someone tell if the court system is involved in this?

The parents, who are both rather young, will be going to court to preserve their choice of name. (okay, i repeated something here and left something out - sorry) The german courts are using the fact that they are turkish against them because the child, with that name, would not be allowed into Turkey.

Is GErmany the country in which the name must be approved in Germany and your parents home country if it's other than Germany?

is that good? i see where that could be suppression of free speech, but still, im glad for the sake of the kid.

i agree with the decision.
this wasn't ad hoc or unprecedented. germany has traditionally been sensitive about things things like this - you cant call your child hitler either, and there are tough fines for saying "heil hitler" or even for singing the "deutschland deutschland uber alles" version of their national anthem.

They were probably just seeking attention. I hope nobody is serious about naming their children after Hitler or Bin Laden.

The only ones that name their kids after Bin Laden are the pashtuns in the afgan border. But seriously that kid would had never gotten a visa to the US.

I don't think courts should be allowed to rule on who can be named what.....then again, if a parent is willing to subject their child to such pain, perhaps they should be....

i resent this remark, the issues i have with turkish people are personal, i am not advocating the death of anybody just that i will not loose any sleep over any turk that dies.
am i out of my mind for hating a nation that has abused my people for hundreds of years?
am i out of my mind for hating a nation that makes it illeagal for anyone to speak kurdish?
am i out of my mind for hating a nation that makes it illeagal to give a kurdish baby a kurdish name?
i could go on and on but unfortunately i dont have the time.
turkey is worse to kurds than iraq is but because they are friends with the bastard american government it is swept under the carpet.

Ok man i understand you have some issues (perhaps rightly so) with the Turkish government but you cannot blame the Turkish people as a whole. I know im probably sounding really preachy and shit like that but seriously i bet most Turks out there are nice guys who you'd get along with if you went out for a drink together.

if i am not mistaken, lately the turkish parliament legalized kurdish.
hawarameen says:
i am not advocating the death of anybody
but here he says:
the only good turk is a dead one!
and my answer to this:
i will not loose any sleep over any turk that dies.
probably you will be happy if the turks that wrote the next article will die: http://www.dhkc.net/en/article.php?sid=97&...hreaded&order=0 (http://www.dhkc.net/en/article.php?sid=97&mode=threaded&order=0) .

You are not out of your mind for hating the nation, but you cannot hate all the people. Ireland was invaded by the English, and they maintained a presence in our country for 800 Years. People were not allowed speak Irish or worship as they saw fit. Their were laws made outlawing Catholicism. The poets were not even allowed to write poems about Ireland.
I hate the government that did this, but there are English people who are okay. My father works in England.
The population of Turkey is around 62 million (http://www.bigglook.com/biggtraveleng/infotips/population.asp) and more than 3 million in Germany. Do you honestly believe that these people are all malevolent killing machines? Surely not. I don't wish to belittle the tribulations of your people, but hate is not a good emotion to overuse.
A fight should be about love, not about hatred.

how many times do i need to put my hand in a fire to know it is hot and not to do it again?
i have met many many turks and they all have the same attidude, once they know you are kurdish they take an instant disliking to you. like i said i have come to blows with turks purely because i am kurdish. on the one occasion i went to turkey (i had to go through turkey to get to kurdistan) anyone that asked where i was from was told that i am kurdish, all replied "there is no such place"
propaganda in turkey is rife, they believe what they are told. if the turkish government says that kurds dont exist and they should not be tolerated then 90% of the population will believe it. personally i dont want to remain civil to turks in the vain hope that i may meet the very few turks that think hang on this is wrong.
during ww2 the vast majority of germany actually believed that jews were bad and they couldnt care less if they were being killed.
during the civil rights movement in america mant people actually belived that black people deserved less rights than whites.
the same thing is happening in turkey, the vast majority of people belive that there is no such thing as a kurd, calling us "mountain turks" which fills me with rage and anger every time i see this term, i would sooner die than to be called a turk.
and as for the relaxed laws on language, this is true, the kurdish minority (approx. 20M) are free.
this article explains exactly how 'free' we really are.
my fight is about love, love for my nation.

you just prove you deserve to be called kurdish hitler. hitler would say "i would rather die than be called a jew".
about your sentance "my fight is about love, love for my nation", is not at all what canickikit mean. i can understand your hate against turks, but i can't support it. you should be ban.

What the fuck is wrong with you people? Any communist should not give people rights that let them hurt other people and instead of saying that Turks are all the same you sould be aware of the facist government of Turkey that demands hatred of kurd for theose who want to be patriotic. If someone said that all Americans were capitalist than would they be right? Obviously not, otherwise this website wouldn't even exist. Simply because the majority of a country blindly follows it doesn't mean that everyone does.
