the earth Summit had the chance to change the world for the better... for all of us.
It promissed a better Environment and living conditions for all.
That was untill America decided Greed more important.

I cant belive the USA blocked moves to have cleaner fuels, less harmfull emissions.... it even objected to halfing the population without clean water.

The president is a puppet for the corporations and one day all this gred will leave America in devestation.

This planet is being used and abused, we are meant to be its caretakers not its destroyers.
wake up America and see the big picture and realize what harm your doing to everyone...

You can also thank the present Australian Government (read: grovelling U.S. lapdog) for that horrendous display of patheticness. Personally, I would like to take a baseball bat to John Howard's head, but hey. :)

well we know Bush is paying off the oil companies, he's also paying off the commercial loggers with new policies of thinning forests that apparently will reduce forest fire risks, which is absolute bollocks as he's planning on thinning the centre of the froests, away from homes which he says he is trying to protect! what a bull shitter...

i could say more but i'll just lose my temper

The Bush Regime wants nothing to do with environment. They are strictly and only business. Bastards.

Yes I agree with you all that good ‘ol George W is on the parole of the Oil Companies and that’s why money is more important to him than all out futures.
But what’s caused this US uncaring attitude to humanity, I will tell you what………

Its Americas Isolationism, yes it’s the world superpower but it is isolated and has been for a long time… in fact since independence.
America has only looked after its own interests, and has only ever done something globally that was for the benefit of itself.

I am not condemning just America there are many other countries that have had this attitude, but NOW it’s the fucking 21st century and many countries are looking at the global picture not just national interests.
It’s about time that the people who make decisions should consider the benefit of Humanity and not just the people in that country.
Just think if America had used its power to help the planet and all its people, they would have much more support now Globally for any kind of Attack on Iraq.
Instead the US is getting No support ( except uk) .. Wake up George don’t you think that is because you have never bothered to help any others except the Greedy and Selfish in your own country.

The UK could have made a bigger stand than they did as well. Most of our governments are comlicit in their inaction. If the rest of the world decided to go against the US, they would have no choice but concede. Most of the capitalist nations are probably relieved by Bush's actions, business is happy and they are not the ones to be seen as the environment fuckers.
Hell, Blair tried to stop the UK's environment minister from going, he is the only one in our sell-out government that knows anything about the environment. All the others (in any position of power) are hand selected Tony's Cronies. Most of them are so intent on their political careers and pleasing the powers that keep them there, that they are blind to the wants and needs of the country.

The main problem is, noone will vote for a liberal party because they think it is a vote wasted, they think that they will never get in. The voters never get it into their thick boned skulls that voting for them will increase their vote base. Brainless morons.
Everyone wants to back the winning side.
Kill them all, live in a cave.

Don't expect anything from bush.
Join greenpeace, join wwf, recycle, etc...
Fuck the leaders, they are the problem so how could they have a solution?
They talk about the future of their contry but they don't understand that the future of all countries depends on the future of earth.

Forget the WWF, they are in the process of selling out at the moment. They were one of the only environmental organisations not to condem Blair for trying to leave out the Environment Minister from the South-African conference deligation.
Their US branch has been caught with its pants down once or twice in recent years.
They are forming strategic alliances with corporations. They are a lost cause, give your money and attention to a more worthy organisation.

I admit it was not the best example.
Anyway, the solution is action.

If we all know that wrong is being done....
How can we change the politician’s ways....

What would make them open their eyes to the world as a whole?

Hell i dont know..... If i saw millions of children dying in the 3rd world i would be moved to convince other decision makes to work together and run the world better for everyone.

But even sights like that don’t seem to bother the bastards.
Hell will it take the destruction of the atmosphere and the melting of the polar caps before they all think to them selves "Hey we could of stopped this ......."

The future of everyone depends on the future of our planet.

LOL...the only positive thing that came outta that was Colin Powell being slow clapped when he claimed that the US was doing a great deal to adapt to the climate change. Maybe the guy will wake up and quit that stupid regime he's got himself involved in.

Rumour has it he plans to leave the staff at the end of this term, whether or not Dubya steals the election again.

Well, according to the Guardian Newspaper Colin Powell had one hell of an afternoon, as he was met by fierce criticism. Apparently, when he started about America's commitment to save the planet and pursue sustainable development one guy shouted "Bollocks" at him, and once the chairman dismissed him a few of the delegates walked out and the rest started chanting "shame on Bush..shame on Bush."

I'm pretty sure he's getting fed up with cleaning up Bush's mess. But anyway, regarding the Summit it was an absolute failure as it ended up being a corporate gathering rather than the intended summit supposedly dealing with poverty and saving the planet. The only concrete plan they achieved after all that negotiating is halving the number of people with no access to clean water and introducing more coral reefs or something like that.

However, main issues such as reducing the world's poor, reducing CO2 emissions, increasing the use of renewable fuels in developed countries, saving wildlife and ratifying the Kyoto agreement were swiftly sidesteped as the US, Canada, Australia and Japan refused to commit themselves to any concrete targets.

These damn politicians. If half of them had any social consciousness and the will to go with it most of the world's problems would be solved within 6 months.

God bless them, and God bless the U$ of A.

I hope Colin Powell lives the current administration, out of all the people in it, he's the only one who should really be president.

But who cares if Bush had showed up or not? That whole summit was a joke, the kind of people who showed up are what I would call conservative liberals, they're all rich and powerful. They don't care about the suffering of others, they're just interested in photo shoots and sound bites that make them look good. If they look and pretend like they care, than those who truley do care will see them as leaders, even though they aren't.
And how in the world can they truely understand the plight and suffering of others if they don't experience it first-hand? Will eating steak, lobster, caviar, and drinking champagne and 50 year old bottles of rum actually enlighten them to the lives of those in need? I think those people are full of shit, and though I support the cause they proclaim, I by no means support those hypocritical elitiests.
