Somalia has been in anarchy for nearly 15 years, but if anything has seen a return to state oppression in the form of mini-fiefdoms carved out by militia. Somalia had a state "socialist" rule for quite some time, but it has been replaced with the economic instability of capitalism without even the pennies that are thrown to the poor here and in Western Europe. All this after a revolt of the people against corrupt leadership, funded in its late years by the US. Why did the people's revolt not materialize into a workers state? Curious on members thoughts about anarchy and poverty in Somalia. It is certainly a shame, so please, discuss.

I'm not too sure if Somalia counts as anarchy. because technically the country is run by various warlords, so it's more like a bunch of mini-dictatorships. I could be wrong, so please correct me.

Somolia is an example of "anarcho-"capitalism, and I think I remember someone citing it as one a while back. Bit it's not an anarchy because it's a bunch of warlords fighting eeach other like street gangs. There are leaders who exercise authority over people.

Somalia was in a state of socialist rule? The country has been nothing of the sort. Nor is it anything like the utopian anarchism desired by the kind of anarchist or anarcho-communist you'll find on this site. The situation in Somalia has been that of a free for all for the past 20 years or so, with the strong taking from the weak. That's not anarchism or socialism or anything else other than nihlism.

This is the key.
It is not a form of anarchism, but rather slightly less centralised capitalism.
Don't take the CIA's governmental and political analysis of Somalia, or any other nation, either literally, or even seriously.
Somalia could be considered as in anarchy in the sense that there are no rulers, but it is not anarchist.
It proves no evidence for or against anarchism (and therefore communism) as it was never intended to be a classless society. The government just collapsed (didn't it?).
It just goes to show that the abolition of classes and all that entails is vital before/during government is abolished otherwise you gain nothing.
