You can now access RevLeft by a secure connection (128-bit SSL encryption). Just access RevLeft by https://www.revolutionaryleft.com, and you can browse the whole site encrypted, all submitted data to the server is of course also encrypted than (PMs, posts etc.).

Your mom!
No seriously, and I thought that's obvious, it means that your connection to the server can't be tapped or traced by anybody. It isn't needed for most of you I guess, but it could be needed for certain people, it's especially useful for secure communication by PM.

It also means that your password will be submitted encrypted and can't be tapped or "sniffed", I forgot to mention that.

This is a test run, I don't know yet if the server has suficient CPU power to handle the encryption, so I might disable it again.
Yes. the international conspiracy can continue! Cheers Malte :P

So if it's overused by people who don't have a specific need for it, like me for example, is that likely to make the board crash again?

No, it just would make the board slower.

That's actually a good idea. Hopefully it doesn't slow the server down much.

Now if only there were a leftist proxy.. :P

heh. I'm at college now. I know they have alot of computer security and logging but I don't think they trace things too carefully, not sure. But yeah, a secure connection could be useful for many people, especially those under suppressive reigmes.

[edit] Can people view the fact that you are on an encrypted site?

apathy maybe

Can you make it the default? I.e. if someone goes to revleft.com it sends them to https://www.revolutionaryleft.com/ rather then http://www.revolutionaryleft.com/

Also would now be a good time to mention the no www campaign. Basically "www" is redundent, it would be like having to email [email protected] (or whatever you email address is). But I don't actually care if you do nothing as you already redirect http://revolutionaryleft.com/ to http://www.revolutionaryleft.com/
edit: here is the weblink no-www.org
