I also hear that the US is developing an anti-mortar weapon that shoots thousands of DU shells per minute, slated to go to iraq.

Its highly possible that depleted uranium will be dangerous. I would try to use more unbaised sources though.

The fact that they expose their own soldiers to uranium makes me not surprised that they would do this also.

Highly possible? Every where depleted uranium has been used cancer has increased insane amounts. I don't even have to look at the links to understand the dangers. It's increased amongst people in our own military too who were attacked in vehicles with depleted uranium armor.

There's actually a training video that they never showed that tells you to get the hell away from cracked depleted uranium armor as fast as you can.

EDIT: I should note the problem is not with handling the shells or being near the armor. The problem is that on impact or when armor is cracked it kicks back particles into the air which is then breathed in or will (with enough usage) cover the area that it's used in.

Yeah, and the DU rounds aerosol on impact, the dust being toxic.

Watch this, though you may have already seen it before. Gives you an idea of what happens, and how much of this crap has been used:

I must that the US doesn't use DU because they're Eeeeevil; they use DU for the simple fact that it is cheaper than non-radioactive tungsten.

I highly disagree with the argument that because DU is used in warfare, we must shut down nuclear power plants - By far the most humane option is to stop using DU in warfare, (It must have peaceful uses surely?) but that's unlikely to happen unless they find a way to produce Californium cheaply (Which is heavier and has a half-life of only a few hours - By the time it gets to the battlefield, it will no longer be radioactive.
