If History is a series of Events and these events are reacted to then by that defintion is every on a reactionary?

or is it like bounging on a trampoline an Event happens then it is reacted to then that Event is Reacted to in a buliding up of a endless cycle?

Well...no matter what the answer is....the conclusion is you should shoot yourself, then I'd have to tell you :D

Dead people don't talk.
Fish smells.
I love trampolines.

This came up before when discussing the true nature of what it means to be reactionary. As I have said in the past, we are programmed along current society, our reactions are generally only in line with what that society has set for the proper reaction. Revolutionary action "thinks outside the box" so to speak. Instead of basing itself on this pre-conditioned idea, it act, quite proactively (rather than by reaction) to change things.

Thus, it is not simply a matter of being characterized by reaction, but a matter of why there is no proactive stance and further, upon what your reaction is based.

We do not just oppose US imperialism when we see the US invade Iraq. We proactively oppose it at all times, and when they take the action, we may "react" (i.e. protests etc) but it fits in with the general awareness we are constantly trying to raise. Further, it is not because of that that we find our beliefs, we find our beliefs otherwise, and such action is simply accounts of what we've been saying all along.

I should just add, that in one way you are right -- but in another you've over simplified it.

One day our ideas will be "reactionary" -- as of now they are revolutionary, but who knows what the future holds exactly. Barring the person changing their ideas, it is unlikely someone would live so long as to be considered a revolutionary in their younger years and completely reactionary when they are older. The timeline of history is just too grand... there was a time when capitalist ideas (even once capitalism has existed) were still "revolutionary" and still were seen as worth fighting for.
