I was just wondering what all you thought of Catcher in the Rye (the book, i think there's a film aswell though)?
In my opinion its a great book, and I find it oddly comforting to read when I'm down or depressed. I cant explain it, it just makes me feel better.
Anyway, what are your opinions on it, etc...

Read it years ago, can't remember much of it but I remember liking it at the time.

I thought it was an ok read. It is a common required book to be read in U$ public schools. I think a lot of teens like it because they can relate to Holden and his thoughts.

I remember that book, loved it. That guy holden is an amazing charachter, calling the whole world phonies and fakes, and he's the biggest phony in the book.

I liked it and related to him. I also read " Jar" which is supposed to be similar.
I find Kurt Vonnegut more comforting, Radiohead more accesible. Hamlet is pretty good too.

i read it some years ago. It's ok. Can't say one of ma favourites.
I read it when I was about 16 for an English essay I was writing.
I really enjoyed it, found it quite witty and perceptive.
Should read it again really.

I really really liked this book. Probably, like everyon else, because I realte so much to Holden. There also wasn't amovie made out of it because Salinger would never sell the rights; which is something I really respect. He thinks that a movie would detract from his work.
