I suppose everyone of you gentle ladies and gentle men know the Unabomber. If not, it is this guy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodore_Kaczynski). That article covers about anything about his person, more or less...and I also 'spose anyone o'ya'll know what he did - Bombings in many manners to fight for what he called for, "Primitivism" - The opposite magnet of Technology. To those who know, this is perhaps nothing new. Calling himself for "FC" (Freedom Club), living in a shack outside of civilization and doing odd jobs here and there....and then he wrote the Manifesto, in which he called the reason for "all of this", killings - attack against civilization and technology - The Unabomber's Manifesto.
And that's what we're here to discuss. If you'd like to read the manifesto, it is located HERE: Manifest of the Unabomber (http://www.wikisource.org/wiki/Industrial_Society_And_Its_Future). If this is in the wrong forum, then please move it elsewhere.
And once you have read 'it', I got some questions:
1. The Article is potraying Technology advancing as something unwanting and is mostly against that, but also a little against Industry and, perhaps Capitalism. Is it really as doomed as he proposes, and that only revolution is possible to bring down the beast, since reforms are not enough and, as he prefer to call it, "will only slack and let corruption creep in again".
2. The Article contains many strikes at Leftism, vaguely written as if it was some huge insight with 'great accuracy', as if he was dealing of an big blow. What are your thoughts on this?
3. Lastly, Theodore Kascynski (very Russian-like name, eh?) - in my humble opinion - is actually friends with Communism even if he has a grudge with us leftists apparantly. But "Theo" seems to potray society as but a "power play" of people with artifical goals depressingly climbing up the society-ladder as a part of some sort of self-realization thing - a drive for profit, ideal or power - And that our society is full or artifical positions that's not really is contributing to anything. They never seem to tire of it since the big problem is that our system has "solved all problems" and taking care of regular problems are so mundane that even if you don't have to kill for your food we insist like going on a hunt for fun or study marine biology f.eg just to appease themselves and/or appear cool. His point seems to be that leisure of our luxus having killed our problems is a problem itself, that it might drive us insane. Is the problem really so bad? And why whould living in a primitive, anarchistic-like society (what Kascynski promotes) be much better/worse?
Think over it ;)
