I've just finished reading his book cat's cradle and was competly blown away. I've already read slaughterhouse-five (, which i also loved), but Cat's cradle is much lengthier and has alot more substance.
Ironic and humurous, vonnegut tells the story of an author whose life is inexplicable bound to the three children of one of the fathers of the atomic bomb. It finishes with the end of the world and is so elaborate and compelling.
He create's a fictional religion which admits to being based on lies. The founder of the religion admits that he himself would never read the book of which it is founded on. It is centralized on a small island nation where the ruler has cleverly outlawed this religion to increase the faithfullness of its followers. Practioners of the religion are punished by death, yet ironically everyone on the island is a devout follower.
the most insightful and satirical novel i've read in a long time. Highly recommended
