Pynchon is an author I can't stand. I've read Gravity's Rainbow, and I thought "no...i'll give him another chance. I can't dislike him this much..." So I borrowed Infinite Jest (from my friend, a literary scenester) and no. It's solid...he sucks. I was actually kicked off a "literary forum" on a certain site for my failure to adore Pynchon. I can't understand the following he has...people I know personally who love him won't tolerate anyone that says otherwise. It's like heresy to them. (Their like those lame 14 years olds who hang out at the american legion waiting for the next "hardcore straighedge punk show", and when you say their music sucks, they swarm at you with tiny fists and dyed-black hair. That may be an abstract simile, but that's what they seem like to me. )

Anyway. I don't like Pynchon. I just can't stand him because I don't think he's that good. (I'd take something written by Dave Eggers over him any day). Anyone else think of him as overrated?

You have to be a genius to read Gravity's Rainbow. It's pretty long and hard, eh?

long, yea. hard? some parts are tough to understand. I had to go back and re-read a couple sections.
I just don't find it to be that great. not my cup of tea.
