Mexicos elections are comming in 2006, and the one leading the poles, and by a large percentage, is Andrés Manuel López Obrador-the Mayor of Mexico City. He's a 'populist' that runs much along the lines of Chavez of Venezuela. It seems like a reoccuring theme, as Latin America is starting to sway to the left? Also, the Mexican Church, Mexican Elite, and Mexican Rightists are all scared as hell about López-that alone brings me great joy.

There is a problem however, as the Mexican congress is going to try to block his candidacy. I'm reading a lot of reports such as the one below, which point to civic chaos and maybe some largescale riots if Mexicos congress decides to block him from running.

It also may be noteworthy to state that Vicente Fox was at Bush's Texas ranch not too long ago. Hopefully all goes well and he's not blocked from the ballot-however i sense shady times ahead.

Anyways, here's one of the articles which explains Andrés Manuel López's predicament: http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/0330mex-politics.html

What do you all think?

You got any more information/links on this?

As the feds are here too, probably.

Though it's not the same tactic obviously, it doesn't surprise me. Remember what happened to Cuauhtemoc Cardenas?

You know how the u$ was involved in trying to get Chavez out of power in Venezuela? I wonder what they might do, if this Lopez Obrador does run. I'm pretty sure things won't go smoothly. <_<

Yeah, the u$ is already pissed off about Chavez in Venezuela, so I doubt they'd let another "Chavez type" get into power in Mexico.

To quote John F Kennedy: "rather a thousand Trujillos than one Castro" Will the US put in that same mentality now?
