I'm going to be writing an essay (hopefully!) on the racist representation of chinese communism/maoism in the US/UK/Australia and so forth. Basically, that the 'red peril' represented two of the 'wests' greatest phobias, communism and the 'asian horde', this is particuarly relevant to Australia, where the fear of an 'asian invasion' has been a staple of the national consciousness since the pre-federation days. If anyone can help me find information, knows where or can give me any information dealing with the portrayl of chinese communism, or the general demonisation of asian communism i'd be very much appreciated,

Thanks to anyone who can help out.

oh boy. Have i got a load of grumble or what!
"So solidly built into our consciousness is the concept that China is conducting a rapacious and belligerent foreign policy that whenever a dispute arises in which China is involved, she is instantly assumed to have provoked it. All commentaries, ?news reports,? and scholarly interpretations are written on the basis of this assumption. The cumulative effect of this only further reinforces the original hypothesis so that it is used again next time with even greater effect."

Communist China is ALWAYS the aggressor! Also whenever i talk to people they always dismisses my opinion as propaganda, refusing to acknowledge that what they'd been taught about China is often ridiculous. Its not always racism---but a "civic discrimination" instead (i think i invented the term)
