I was suprised to see that this movie was not listed...It was released on DVD recently and is in spainish. (it does offer subtitles, however) Anyways, I love the movie, it's an excellent flick...streight out of Che Guevaras book.

yes, that's true. the movie isn't bad at all, but i'd personally prefere if it'd stayed as a book. all these movies about che... don't know, it just seems too capitalistic for me. the people won't really get to know che by only watching movies about him. i honestly believe quite a few (at least in croatia) peers of mine heard about him for the first time. it might be good, but his imige is becoming exploted more and more tnx to things like this...

Walter Salles is not a money-grubbing capitalist, he is an artist. You can tell by watching the movie that it's not Hollywood bullshit. It's quality stuff.

yes, i know, i agree about that, but lately che is becoming here a fashion image, and people see him as that only and nothing more. i agree that the movie is great and follows che's writings. the movie with benicio del toro about che will come soon, and i'm really hoping it'l be good as this one. i don't want them to make che different from what he was, not even a bit, cause they might think that it would be better or sth like that.
what i want to say is that i hope people will be more interested in che and communism after watching these movies, and that it won't be just a way to make money.
after all, i frankly don't believe che would have been too happy if he knew yankees would make movies about him... <_<

I have not yet seen the movie, I cant seem to find anybody who owns a copy here in Spain :( . Che's image is being exploited for capitalistic reasons :( But if people wear him as an image they are promoting our cause. There is the dilema we need to find a worker-owned business that supports our cause to make the t-shirts for the right reason not for money.

Communism was mentioned like once in the movie. This movie was about the man before he became a revolutionary and what sparked those feelings. Just by watching the movie and seeing how the indengenous people lived, you want to make a change. Powerful movie.

Do you think that this movie will inspire people to fight against Capitalism? (it has strong parts of "anti-capitalistic" messages not THAT much concealed)

I think that it will at least help people to understand what we are fighting.

I saw it last night, I thought it was great, the story was very interesting and really told you a lot about Che the person, not just the revolutionary. I thought his friend was hilarious, and I liked how the movie was serious, but not overly dramatic. I particularly liked the part with the miners, and Che standing up for them.
Also, does anyone know if the guy in the end was the real Alberto, he looked like the right age.

great movie....being from peru and living the life there myself...It really makes me proud that people may begin to think about things around the world....a couple of people at School i could instantly tell that just because they watched the movie they were somehow experts of Che...they wear the shirts and quote him....really makes me sick

I thought that the script and subtle film making was really powerful. Just the way that the banter at the beginning was about getting laid and what-not. Then as they see more and more, their dialogue becomes so much more serious and meloncholy.
And the part of Che's asthma attack on the boat, that made me feel like I was suffocating. Just a great film.
I thought it was a really good movie, great scenery and I recognized lots of the places they had been filming, perhaps some people will start reading books about him if they didnt know about him in the first place.
... And I agree on that more and more people are wearing che shirts here as well.. just a couple of years ago I was pretty alone about doing it here up in Norway but now there is people selling che bags, t-shirts and what have you... It wasnt possible to find it about 1 or 2 years ago here...
Peru_Anny: When I was in Peru the last time I was looking for che stuff there as well in the markets but mostly I got the answer from the vendors: no somos terroristas, or no somos terrucos.. Then I got to some tatoo shops and there were some tees...
Where are u from btw? I went to the chancheria and to malvinas first, but I was living in cercado d lima, palermo.. :)

It's a really strong movie.
I personally liked the fragment when an Indian shows two walls. One of them of very big stones, another - of small stones. And he says: "This wall(of big stones)was made by indigenous people, that one - by Spanish". I laughed ten minutes, I guess...
Seriously, the movie is full of sympathy to Fuser and Alberto. This is great.

Here is a balanced review of the film: World Socialist Web Site: When more could have been more (The Motorcycle Diaries) (http://www.wsws.org/articles/2005/jan2005/moto-j14.shtml)
I have to say I agree; it has it's shortcomings. While watching the movie and after reading many biographies and Che's work I thought they presented him as being passive and saint-like. From my impression he was passionate and genuine but this was not his personality at all.
I know you can only fit so much into two hours but I was hoping they'd go more into the political events of the time and how Che was developing his philosophy during these experiences.
That being said, I'm not trying to be overly critical. Compared to most trash coming out of Hollywood this was a moving and important film. It really inspires you to fight for social change....and travel too!
I don't know anything about this new Che film in the works (starring Benicio del Toro) but I hope they show Che in Bolivia (during the uprising) and Guatemala (during the coup).
