I think they're great! I still listen to their stuff.

So what's your opinion of them, and if you like them, do you have any favourite songs?

My favourites are "Holiday in Cambodia", "California Uber Alles", and their cover of "I fought the law."

I love Dead Kennedys.
My personal favorite is Let's Lynch the Landlord, but the entire Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables album is gold.

In God We Trust Inc. is good, but it mostly just makes me want to listen to Reagan Youth. Leaving one side blank to encourage home taping was a stroke of genuis.

My favorite songs probably include Terminal Preppie - the first song I played for the grrrl who's still probably my best friend, Government Flu, and, a more recent favorite, Pull My Strings.

Is anyone familiar with the shit (not in a negative sense) Jello did with DOA? Probably the most DK-esque of any of his, well, post-DK work. Really great.

I love the Dead Kennedys. Some of my favorite songs would have to be Holiday In Cambodia, MTV Get Off The Air, Stars and Stripes of Corruption, and I Fought The Law. They were one of the earliest bands I got into. They also helped introduce me to politics.

Poor Jello Biafra. He will just never be more popular than Ralph Nader among the Green Party. Green Party 2000 Convention Results (http://gp.org/convention2000.html)

"Ralph Nader and Winona LaDuke were nominated with 92% of the vote, with the remainder being split evenly between Jello Biafra and Stephen Gaskin. The convention delegates also approved the convention platform that Nader and LaDuke are running on."

Jello will always be number 2 in Greens' hearts.

TO VMC,

I head the Jello-DOA song on the Rock Against Bush Vol. 1, and it was pretty good. I havent checked out anything else though between them.

They are a good band, I actually bought Frankenchrist.

I like to support good artists with my meagre wages.

I don't really care what type of punk, it all sucks to me. Especialy emo.

Punk, in my opinion, is a joke the British decided on to play on Americans. They all got together and said, "I bet Americans are so stupid, we can make millions from them if we can just record about 2 notes being played over and over and over while some agressive musicians shouts undeciphrable lyrics and beat their drums as hard as they possibly can." laugh.gif

Hey, I think he was right back then! Punk is one of the most elaborate pranks played in the last fifty years. McLauren was a fucking genuis.
The absolute highlight is that most punks don't get the joke.

I have "Fresh Fruit For Rotten Vegetables". I like some of it's classics (Kill The Poor, California Uber Alles, Holiday In Cambodia), and a few others are good too (Let's Lynch The Landlord, Funland At The Beach), but I don't really care much about the rest.

Yes, times have changed.
And thanks for rubbing it in face like that. :P

Well, it all started when I listened to Marquee Moon by Television. Plus the compilations you made and the one I made.
I've been listening to some new wave lately, some proto punk, and some punk. Even some hardcore, like DK.

Well Victor you and I used to butt heads over the merits of punk quite a bit as you probably recall. I think it is a credit to your openmindedness that you've overcome your bias against punk. I could tell from those early exchanges that your opinions of punk seemed to be mostly formed from your limited exposure to the genre.

Mostly I had just heard Sex Pistols, Ramones and modern pop punk.
When I was ranting about how much punk sucked, someone asked me if I had heard bands like Television and Pere Ubu. I looked into them and loved it. That's how it started, I guess.

I still like prog, but my changed musical palate can't handle too much.
