india,
for the last 9 years was ruled by BJP(the local relegious party)......
it killed many people in the form of riots....and all..........

We, indians made congress(other alternate big party ,with quiet progressive people....nehru' and gandhi belonged to it) to come in to power!

even the congress people are similar to the previous one's sucking out poor thru globalisation,privatisation and all!

the condition india proves that

.....with a new name UPA(United Progressive Aliance)...won elections with the support given by other progressive & left parties!

Apart from minor foreign policy changes the conditions in india will remain the same. As long as a capitalist government is in office anywhere in the world there will always be rich oligarchs and the oppressed proletariat.
My advice would be not to expect anything spectacular as only the party ruling has changed the capitalists still run the show.
However i am optimistic on the communal situation particularly in gujarat
