Anarcho-spain -1936-39, can anyone give me a non-capatilst description of the system in place and how things were dealt with?

What other states have had a anarchist system in place?

I've always been under the illusion it was socialist rather than anarchist. I knew there were anarchist elements fighting but i thought it was pre-dominantly communist. I think i read somewhere before that Stalin refused to support anarchy and part of the deal of the USSR's aid to Spain was that the Spanish government acted against anarchist groups. Not sure if it's true though.......

For a good description of the Anarchist communes read "The Anarchist Collectives" compiled by Sam Dolgoff. A really good, and interesting book.

Apparently it was well planned out, things ran smoothly, and Barcelona's, which was highly under the influence of Anarchism, industries actually increased in production compacity ... pretty amazing during a war with limited capital and supplies. The Collective movement was actually fun and interesting to explore. It kind of made you wish you could be there. However, Dolgoff's book would explain things much better than I, considering I have not read it in years and don't wish to give you false information.

Sam Dolgoff was an Anarchist, so he gives it a very positive light because it was a collection of articles by him and others, during and after that time. It simultaneously does not dumb down many problems but explores them and admits them thoroughly... from what I remember anyway. Antony Beevor's "The Spanish Civil War" also mentioned the collectives. Although his mentioning was just above a footnote.
