Three City College Students Charged With Felonies For Counter-Military Recruitment Protest
CounterRecruiter.net has learned that the New York police have arrested three counter-military recruiters in New York and filed felony charges against two of the students.
Nick Bergreen, Justino Rodriguez and Hadas Thier, all undergraduate students at the City College of New York, were arrested Wednesday during a protest at the school. Bergreen and Rodriguez have been charged with felony assault; Thier was charged with obstruction of a government administrator.
According to a press release from supporters of the City College Three, "Hadas Thier, Nick Bergreen, and Justino Rodriguez, along with approximately a dozen other protesters attended a job fair organized by the college, and stood up in front of a National Guard recruitment table chanting anti-war slogans. Private security and campus peace officers immediately surrounded the protesters, pushed them into an empty hallway outside of the job fair, closed the hall door and assaulted two protesters and arrested a third who was taking pictures.

A newer article, from yesterday:
But it was Rodriguez who spent the night in jail, after being charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Fellow students Nicholas Bergreen, 22, and Hadas Thier, 28, were charged with assault. All three face the possibility of up to a year in prison and were suspended from school, pending a hearing.

edit: I'm going to email the President of the college, I hope you all will do the same.

In my area Veteren's For Peace have requested control of Counter-Recruiting Protests, as
a.) They know the law, and have strong ACLU backing, as well as leverage to call adminstrators regarding disruptions.
b.) It looks reeeaaal bad to arrest a Veteren particularly a disabled veteren trying to stop recruitment :D doesn't make the best "picture" for the paper.
c.) It alerts the media to the lack of Veteren's supposed benefits after they get out.
d.) Veteren's For Peace are in the midst of an anti-Stop Gas campaign. Stop Gas is a device used by the military to keep those injured, those whose time is up, or on leave registered for active duty. It's essentially a back door draft. They tell the person that they will be a list for "insurance purposes" to receive benefits, but actually next thing they know they are shipped back out for another tour of duty :o
Also along the border states Mexican citizens have been offered green cards if they will sign up for active duty. Veteren's For Peace have to be asked into a school by a teacher or adminstrator, but they are allowed to protest out front on all public sidewalks.
The new laws granting absolute powers to military recruiters in all states' high schools was one of the many hidden items in No Child Left Behind. No Child Left Behind from combat ;) more like it.

This also happened recently at my school. If i can find the article i'll copy and post up here. But the gist is the army was recruiting on my college campus and had a table, there were some activists that were there passing anti-military pamphlets and leaflets. The Dean got involved, told them to move because they was blocking the table and scaring students from getting information. 3 moved, 1 didn't and he was soon arrested.

Our forefathers were assholes and who cares what they established because it was all hypocritical BS. Protests dont work anywhere, only swift, violent action will change things.

This is great. The counter recruiting effort is seriously making an impact on communities all over the country. All around my area they've been very active, which is really good. The military itself is saying they're having more trouble recruiting people now.

Smaller recruting numbers have nothing to do with protests. It has to do with the naive people who join the Army arent so naive anymore thanks to the daily dose of blood and gore live from Bahgdad. How many people do you think would have volunteered for the Service in 1968 after the Tet Offensive was braodcast on TV?
Young men and Women are starting to realize the Army is not just another way to pay for college.

We have never had the rights garunteed by the constitution. We are beaten if we protest. You can get in trouble for writing a revolutionary editorial in a paper. If you swear infront of children you can get arrested. 1st amendment right is crap. It has never existed. The constitution was made in order to make the people think that they were free. It worked quite well and helped spread nationalism. Now the average american thinks they are free.
And yah anarchist freedom same thing at my school. One army guy actually started arm wrestling students. Needless to say it attracted them and he ran out of his propaganda. Just counter them as best you can. Give away your propaganda and a free cookie with it. I garuntee more people will come to you. :)
