The Oscars, like all similar awards shows, are just tacky back-slapping events held, where idiotic rich celebrities meet with other idiotic rich celebrities.

Didn't "Motorcycle Diaries" won for "best song"?
Santana (wearing a Che's shirt and "hat") played it with Antonio Banderas singing. The song (by Jorge Drexler) sucks.
The oscars sucked anyway. They always do.

I agree that the Oscars are always pro-American. The show did suck...but I'm happy that The Motorcycle Diaries won something at least. They should've won best adapted screenplay as well, because the script was very moving and humorous at the same time, it was a fun ride, but oh well.

No, buddy, the song is really good; it's just that Antonio Banderas' singing sucked! He was horrible from when he first opened his mouth. Jorge Drexler should've sang the goddamn thing, his singing during his speech made the whole performance by Carlos and Antonio look bad. But I still love Santana, Tony, and Jorge.
On another note, who thought that Jaime Foxx's performance in Ray was deserving of a Best Actor award?? Because I sure as hell didn't. I mean, the guy came from In Living Color for crying out loud. Don't get me wrong, I respect the true Ray Charles as a person, he was a gentle sweet man, but Jaime Foxx is an obnoxious comedian who had such roles in The Players Club, The Great White Hype, and even.....Booty Call??? he portrayed Ray as some twisted retarded junkie. I don't know..the movie was well directed either..and everytime Ray (Jaime) was on, he just made a fool out of himself. Does anyone agree or am I the only one because a lot of my friends here says the opposite. And for those who get so offended for the dumbest things, don't bother turning this into some race thing. This is not about race.

Yeah Motorcycle Diaries won for best original score which was great, Santana who is one of my musicians was awesome with the beret and the Che shirt.
Personally I don't think the oscars suck. Two black actors won in both male acting categories Morgan Freeman and Jamie Foxx that was really cool. Tim Robbins won best supporting last year and it is pro american but it's an american event and they aren't totally unfair to foreign films.
Farenheit 9/11 was ineligible because of some technical bullshit but Chris Rock made some good Bush jokes in the opening.

I don't understand how him comming from In Living Color makes him a bad actor or even his past work. Alot of actors had past work where their roles were horrible or just sucked. Most comedians are excellent actors. And if you didn't notice ray charles was a drug addicted so depicting him as such was wrong? If you knew ray charles you would know foxx played him to a T, that's why he won the oscars. You are really looking at it from a closed mind.

I hate the oscars. It's a stupid celebration of richness and fame. I've got better things to do than watch some 1337 $313bz.

First of all, this is freedom of opinions, so I say whatever I want, whenever I want and however I want. And second of all, I asked if anyone else agrees with me.. that is all. I know Ray was a junkie but the way Jaime Foxx portrayed him as was a twisted retarded junkie..there is a difference, this is my opinion so unless you agree with me then you can add on but if you don't, don't try to argue it. But you know what? I'll just mention this: Personally, I just don't like Jaime Foxx just because of the fact that he wants the whole world to have pity for him because of the black people being oppressed in the past and living through difficult times with white supremacy, blah blah you know the whole story..he shouldn't use race as the significant point he's trying to make when being nominated for an Academy Award. He was on Barbara Walters discussing this whole thing. And I really don't think it's appropriate to do that for something like winning the Oscars. That is all I am saying about that. He should accept the nomination/award like a man. Morgan Freeman never mentioned his race, nothing, same with Don Cheadle even though he didn't win, I'm sure he wouldn't have if he won. That is why I have more respect for them than people like Jaime Foxx. But this is my opinion so don't try to argue my opinion. I only asked those who agree with me..that is it..I don't want spark up controversy with race or anything related to that even though from what I said it's nothing controversial. But maybe some ignorant defensive person (I'm not saying you; I hope not at least) will turn this whole thing into a major thing because of the little thing I just said. That's their immaturity. I will have nothing to do with that. And yes, I admit I can be closed-minded at times (like everyone) but not this time..because I have a reasonable back-up for my opinion against Jaime Foxx winning the award. So please, if you want to bring some attention to yourself..do it, with someone else or do it on something that's actually worth bringing attention.

Did you notice that most of your biases against jamie for winning the award was not due to his acting ability but for him bringing up the race issue? Second how do you think you sound claiming you have freedom of speech and freedom to have opinion, but then try to deny my freedom to have an opinion?

I knew you would have something else to say about it. You can never stop, can you?? I made it very clear...does anyone else agree with me? If not, don't bother trying to argue. You noticed that the rest weren't defensive but you. I don't want people like you getting all defensive about dumb shitl. And you know what, his acting ability sucks ass. I don't care if he was nominated, in my opinion, he sucks..he tried too hard to portray Ray. He should stick to movies like "Booty Call."

It's not much fun to argue with people who agree with you. And it does sound like you dislike him because he mentioned his race when he got the award, but so did Halle Berry and Denzel Washington when they won theirs.
But this is my opinion so don't try to argue my opinion.
Good luck with that one.
And I thought he was pretty good in Ray.

agree with you. And it does sound like you dislike him

Of course I dislike Jaime Foxx because of that reason
alone. I like him as the crazy obnoxious comedian
that he is. And about Halle and Denzel..they deserved
the awards that year..I loved Monster Ball and
Training Day. Denzel is such a great and lovable
actor, I should add. I've been a fan of his for a
very long time... and since they were the first
African Americans to win the Oscar, they had every
right to mention race..I mean, that would be so stupid
if they didn't mention race or anything. That Oscars
was about race; everyone mentioned it; it was all over
the world; so for you to compare Halle Berry and
Denzel Washington to Jaime Foxx's case is so
ridiculously incomparable. What's the point in
mentioning the black oppression this year at the
Oscars????? Can anyone tell me that??? I would have
more respect if he accepted his award like a real
actor who just won an award for being the best, not
some boy who wants everyone to pardon him because of
his black heritage. I totally disagree with that.
The one thing I hate about black people is that a lot
(and I'm not saying all) of them feel as though the
whole world owes them an apology or whatever just
because of their slavery and segregation and what have
you. But a lot of them are very intelligent and well
disciplined and they don't talk about how they need
the world's pity like the other half of the black
population; I greatly respect those types of people.
It's funny because I've encountered a lot of people
who are black and they so agree with me. They
mentioned that they are the ones who raise the crime
rates among blacks and that "all they're looking for
is more attention and more trouble" or so I recall. I
have remorse for the older black generation who lived
through that but times have changed, man, this isn't
about race. It's about culture. And culture meaning
a "high degree of taste and refinement formed by
aesthetic and intellectual training."
Wow, kid, do you understand how a message board
works ? You post a topic and people are free to
comment, debate, disagree, whatever. Telling people
"only reply if you agree" and then getting mad when
people slightly deviate from the things you've already
said strikes me as really fucking retarted. And then
you call him dumb shit for arguing with your
ridiculous opinion ?
Which brings me to my next point. May I ask why your
"opinion" is that black people should keep their
mouths shut about the things that happened in the past
? Should they also keep quiet about race problems that
still exist ?
Well, it took you 3 posts to comment on Jamie Foxx's
acting skills. In the other 2 you were saying that his
comments on the oppression of blacks somehow made his
performance in Ray less deserving of the award.
Yeah, I do know how a message board works..but you
know what? It's the fact that I knew if I disagreed
with Jaime Foxx winning the Oscars because of my
personal opinion (him mentioning race)..it was gonna
turn into a racial mess!! I mentioned already, a lot
of today's black youth have this strong hatred or some
racial bitterness against other races, mostly the
white people. And this is what's causing so many
arguments because of that resentment. It's
ridiculous! And so the reason I started talking more
about the racial situation between Jaime Foxx is
because "guerillablack" has previously tried to argue
with me on other topics due to race and whatever and I
feel as though he's not getting the message I'm trying
to say. I don't know..I think it's the fact that if
someone uses black pride in some negative way, someone
has to reject and can't listen to what's truely
reasonable about what has been said. And that's why
such negativity is displayed amongst black people as a
whole. That's why a lot of people show little respect
or none at all to people of that kind. And it just
really pisses me off. You have to lighten up,
people...all of you think the world is out to get you,
we're not. There are many racists against Blacks out
there and I totally would abolish that if I was
dictator of the world. And to answer your two
questions about black people keeping their mouths
shut...of course not!! How ridiculous of you to ask
that. This discussion was pertaining to Jaime Foxx's
case at the Academy Awards!! Was it some "World
Issues Award?" No, I'm afraid it wasn't. But
whatever, I should've quit this thread a long time
ago...
And he portrayed Ray Charles perfectly. Have
you ever seen footage of the real Ray ?
Here, I'm thankful you backed up your opinions on
Jaime Foxx's performance excluding race-related
comments. To answer you question, yes, I have and
from what I've seen, he looks like a sweet old man.
But I just feel as though Jaime Foxx's
already-built-up crazy comedian personality gave his
portrayal of Ray Charles as something to laugh at in a
displeasing, depressing, and unpleasant way. But he
sure looked like him so that was the plus there, other
than that, his acting wasn't anything special. I
think he just tried too hard. It's not as convincing
or as natural as Denzel Washington. Also, what made
it even worse was that the directing was horrible.
The movie was not at all moving; just the childhood
flashbacks Ray had. Those scenes were very well
directed and being that I am studying to be a director
one day. The movie La Bamba, now that's a beautifully
well directed movie.
But overall, I am not sorry for sparking up a racial
argument between you, "Hampton," and especially
"guerillablack" because my opinions were highly
reasonably backed-up. There was no racism involved.
The only thing I am sorry about is being in this
touchy situation with you. I hope you all understand.

I just thought i'd also say that i jsut saw Hotel Rwanda the other night and that was incredible, and i don't think it won anyhting. It did have 3 nominations.

yeah it sucked that it diddn't win anything. maybe a few of the 5,816 members of the academy diddn't get around to seeing Hotel Rwanda. It's a shame cause althogh Jamie Foxx was good, but Don Cheadle was great.
Yeah, the Oscars are gonna turn into the Grammys one day.
