I like that album too, but (2) I'm not very much into prog lately and (3) I think it's incredibly over rated. Wish You Were Here is like Dark Side of the Moon without the experimentation. Instead of doing something that would be musically groundbreaking like DSOTM, they did something pedestrian like WYWH. It's good, but the cool thing about Pink Floyd had been the fact taht it was so experimental, and after DSOTM they totally lost that.

That was because after DSoTM they had found their sound that made them unique and the great band that they are. I don't think they completely lots their experimentation though. While they Pink Floyd "sound" remained the same Animals and The Wall continued to explore different themes and the wall certainly isn't like the previous albums because it is a Rock Opera in the tradition of The Who that tells a story, unlike the other albums, which, while still being interconnected, don't have a central character. That side Piper at the Gates of Dawn is my favourite Pink Floyd ablum.

DSOTM is WAY overrated, WYWH is much better.

That was because after DSoTM they had found their sound that made them unique and the great band that they are.

Nope, they basically had that sound since Meddle. They just "polished" it and made more "Echoes" and less "One Of These Days" and "Seamus".

You obviously don't get DSOTM.
The appeal of it was the fact that it was so avant-garde and experimental, but that seems to be secondary to you.

They may not have lost the experimentalism entirely, but they certainly took what they saw as successful from DSOTM and used the exact same style to make the radio-friendly, over rated bore that was WYWH. This involved very little of the psychedelia and alternative instrumentals that had come before. After DSOTM they seemed to conform somewhat to the progressive rock of that time.

Animals was a lot better.

The Wall was good, but bordered on Waters' self-indulgence at times.

DSOTM and before was easily the best, IMO.

It's not much more "avantgarde" and "experimental" than Meddle, or even Obscured By Clouds. It's basically the same style, just that a bit more polished, better produced and a bit more "commercial". "On The Run", for example, bores me. "Any Colour You Like", while a "pretty" instrumental, is not as great as the instrumental parts of SOYCD. "Money" can get me bored sometimes because it sounds a bit fake, "Time" has those annoying clocks, and so on. I mean, DSOTM attemps to be a "masterpiece" and it is one...just that with a few flaws that ruin the whole thing for me. And I don't pay too much attention to the sound effects (excepting the intro to Money which is GREAT). WYWH is a bit better in songwriting.

You're right that their previous work was also experimental, even more so. But I was comparing it to their later work.
And that's also one of the main appeals of DSOTM. It was a perfect blend of the experimental and early years and the more listeneble, comercial material of their later years. Although it was largely over rated compared to the previous albums. It was better, but not as much as it's made out to seem.

It's not the same style as Meddle or OBC at all! Listen to those albums again, please.

WYWH is a bit better in songwriting.

I disagree.
Originality is important to me. And the sound effects were not the only source of that. Listen to that album again. Use headphones if you have them.

I agree. In fact DSOTM is the most representative Pink Floyd album.

It's not the same style as Meddle or OBC at all! Listen to those albums again, please.

I did many times. They are simmilar, although Meddle and OBC are a bit more "cold" and without all the "little details" DSOTM has.

I disagree.

Ok, whatever

Originality is important to me.

I won't disagree with this, but it depends on how good the original stuff is.

Give it a few more listens. I didn't like it that much at first, I love it now. The songs that sounded silly at first are now funny, especially Silas Stingy which I thought it was a really stupid one, but i can't get it off my head now for some reason.

Not quite this, but in the same vein.
The one I found was called Soulful Christmas (produced in Cincinnati), so I think it may be kind of rare. Some cool shit though. Him singing at a small concert in the sixties, with songs like "Santa Claus go straight to the Ghetto" and "Say it Loud" played completely differently than normally.
out of season, but still great and raw.

CCR - Fortunate Son

Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they're red, white, and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the Chief"
They point the cannon right at you

It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no senator's son
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one

Some folks are born silver spoon in hand,
Lord, dont they help themselves
But when the tax man comes to the door,
Lord the house looks like a rummage sale

It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no millionaire's son
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one

Some folks inherit star spangled eyes,
Ooh, they send you down to war
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
They only answer "More! More! More!"

It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no military son
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one

It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one

Athist Peace is a good song. IMO all of there songs are pretty good. I actualy am one of the onyl people who like the songs on "into the Unknown".
The sound I liked the best from them was proably the albums "No Control" "Against the Grain" and "How could Hell be anyworse". I dont like the new sound as much as the classics.
