Hello, I'm from New York and I want to start my own communist party. I am currently a member of the CPUSA (which is by nobody's standards a true communist party) and the Progressive Labor Party. THe PLP is actually pretty good, however, i disagree with their stance on socialism. The PLP believes in fighting for direct communism, without the transitional stage of socialism in between. This sounds good but unrealistic. Therefore, I was interested in starting my own party based on Marxism-Leninism-Bolshevism. I was wondering if anybody knew what procedures had to be done in order to create a legal party in New York state? Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

Did you research to find if there weren't any other parties around to fit your taste?

Yes, and the only ones I've been able to find are the Revolutionary Communist Party, Socialist Workers Party, Socialist Equality Party, Socialist Labor Party, Working Families Party, and then the other more mainstream parties like the greens, etc.

the closest to yours is the RCP but they are really maoist,
the best thing to do, is to make some guiding principles and just talk to people, pass out pamphlets just get membership on that level

I take it that neither of these parties is aware of the fact that you're a member of the other.
Meanwhile, to your question...
Starting a new party usually begins with what's called a "pre-party formation"...for example, the Progressive Labor Party was originally the "Progressive Labor Movement". After a couple of years gaining supporters, then you hold a "founding congress" which actually sets up the party.
If you want your party to be a legal entity that runs candidates for office in bourgeois elections, then things get more complicated. I suggest that you write the Secretary of State of New York to find out exactly what the legal requirements are.
I can't imagine why anyone at this late date would want to set up yet another sterile monument to Lenin...but hey, it's your life.

The problem with socialism is it's too fragmented, in britain, there are hundreds of socialist party, in scotland a lot of them have united behind ssp.

You'll find the same problem with anarchism and communism.
