We have school uniforms like all high schools and intermidiates I'm NZ aswell as some primaiy schools. Apart from pipe band (it's a kilt not a skirt) thats the only uniform I've ever worn.
Now After watching some movies and stuff iI've relised that in the U.$.A. there are know uniforms at high school however some where school clothing (the jocks etc). Is this the norm in the states and other countries around the world?
Thanks

well it's usually Private schools that wear uniforms and public schools don't....although some public schools have implemented it because of gang violence, so it becomes a neutral color...

Well,I know that in Japan public schools and private schools have uniforms to a certain degree,I mean till you reach high school or university but I cant remember well,so this could be wrong. In Mexico only private schools use uniforms but not the public schools. In Germany public and private schools dont have uniforms but that is because of Germany´s past.As far as I know I never had to wear an uniform.

I used to wear the uniform in the primary school. But in the USSR we all had to do that. That was disgusting, frankly.

When I was in public school, I hated the idea of the uniform. When I got out, I became more accepting to it; more than likely because it would no longer affect me. Nowadays, I really don't care.
Either way, I think kids should be able to wear what they want. Clothes are clothes. One of the greatest ways to incite conflict is to force something upon someone.

In South African public schools, you have to wear uniforms, which is friggin disgusting- children have been bared from attending class because they didnt have a uniform, these are people who are coming from families that cant even afford the 100 rand truition
(which is something like $6 - im not sure but i think thats the rate). Its pathetic!!!
In most private schools here you also have to wear very stringent uniforms, blazer tie - all that. My current school Britsih International College doesn't enforce any uniforms because it believes in the freedom of the individual. My last school was fairly lax when it came to uniforms, jeans and the school shirt, but on Frodays we had to get into the friggin blazer and tie, fuck i hated that thing - i used to just tie a knot in the tie - they didnt appreciate my individual freedom when it came to that,:( i didnt last very long, thank God! :)

Yeah so to elaborate, uniforms are the apitoney of conformism. I'm thinking of tie diying one of my school shirts and wearing it, just to see what happens.

It is good that here in Sweden, uniforms are a thing of the past. Not even private schools have them.
Uniforms are just some kind of sick wet dream of an old man or woman who want to see children play soldiers and doing as they're told, nothing more.

I attend a public charter school, and we have uniforms. this year, theyre making them even stricter,a nd MAKING you buy from a certain company. The headmasters trying to turn u into a catholic school it seems, even though NO study shows that having uniforms raises grades or academic performance, and my dad has confronted the school board on this, and they claim to have "250 pages of research" so my dad got on the phone with the nations top researcher who says theres not one credible study to show that, and my dad has consistently pushed onto the board, they push im away and avoid the subject.
Another problem my family faces, is them making you buy certain uniforms. Luckily, my dad has consulted the law. Were going to get the same type uniform, then pin little pieces of paper with the logo printed on them, instead of buying from some large corporatin company with gay logos. Also, im allowed to wear any kind of button/pin/patch in public shcool,s s im going to protest by wearing signs on my back that say things like, "The board passed the uniform law, and all i got was this stinking shirt" etc, you get the idea. anyways, the administration at my school really despises my family, because we are ultimate left wing. My dad grew up a hippie like his brothers, and so hes helpibng me to devise plans to protest the uniforms. also, next year, im going to try to run and underground pamphlet showing ALL the information against uniforms, and ask for one for it. Haha, i love pissing off school administration. If youve read this whole thing, thank you for your time. and excuse my mistakes. i type fast and usually put my letters in the wrong order or forget letters, thanks though guys.

i am actually for uniforms. a simple uniform which everyone has to wear means everyone is equal. you will get no people thinking there above people because they do not have expensive clothes and designer labels. but i do not think the uniforms should be blazer ,tie etc, i belive they should be practicall and simple.

Same here, even though we don't have ot at my school, it brings the school to the same level. ;)
But I think the schools should supply them.

Im wearing one right now. i like the idea that i dont have to chose wht to wear everyday, but other than that it just sucks. The idea itself is hypocritical. My school, an aristocratic private school claims that uniforms stress equality.
That is bullshit to me. I got into an argument with one of the staffs in the school and he was clearly the one to blame. At the end i got punished for it. I got suspended for 1 day cause i refused to apologize. Students and teachers are clearly not equal. That’s why THEY don’t have to wear uniforms.
And there is no equality among students either. I know someone who's getting 40s in al subjects, the only reason he was permitted to come is cause his dad donated like a million dollars. Where the hell is equality in this one?

but should freedom of expression be allowed? it causes unstability , however (arguing against my own point here) having it makes the peole more equal. yet i belive you should have uniforms enforcing equality on people .
also (thought of another point) freedom of expression gives way to eople feeling they are more important than someone if they are smarter, richer better clothed, have fashion sense.
plus i am for them as i can't think in the mornings. i would end up going to school naked without them.
oh and i agree that schools should supply them

I wear two different uniforms, one for a Search and Rescue organization and one for a JROTC organization.

JROTC is during school and the uniform is required for wear every Wednesday, but I get your point.
