I was just wondering what the common method of currency is in Cuba, I know it's officially the peso but I've heard people say that they use the American dollar but I thought that was no more. Please enlighten a poor stupid GoAT. Thanks.

i wouldn't think they use the american dollar because its illegal for americans to spend money there. And castro wouldn't stand for it.

wait here--

After November 8 2004 Cuba only except convertable pesos (CUC), they have the same value as USDollars. This means you have to bring Euros, CAD or Pound Sterling with you to exchange it into CUC (convertible pesos). Besides this of course you can bring your credit card with you to get money from the bank in Cuba. As for USD, after November 2004 you have to pay an exchange rate of 10%, so better leave those USD at home.

yeah i went there and the convertable money was a shocking idea...it sometimes means goods are even more expensive than here in Canada.

But i had no problem spending some money there...I felt less guilt than ever, cause i thought i was helping the people, lol.

Especially after seeing the difficult condition in Cuba...Schools are running out of pens and paper and books... I gave out 3 pens i brought cuz i had 3 kids asking me for my pens so they can go to school and have something to write with... Quite touching. I gave my last pen to the last guy. The pen was my birthday present which was worth 100 dollars Canadian.

So when u guys decide to go to Cuba, bring some pens or pencils with u. It'll mean ALOT to the children over there.
