View Full Version : The Essential COMMUNIST

As some of you may know, I've been working on a musical compilation the past few weeks. It's complete and available for download (I hope). You see, I've never worked with yousendit.com before, so I hope this works out...

As you can see, there are two versions:

unabriged compilation. 81 tracks. 533 MB (http://s35.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1ALGP59YWF59M1TSE9JC6U227E)

abriged compilation. 22 tracks. 214 MB (http://s35.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0E7H53PL4DNA9383G9WFSE17V9)

The former is what I'd recommend for most of you. It's mostly folk, hip-hop, punk, and hardcore.

The later is what I made that can fit into a single audio CD. It's strictly the most *important* songs and the easiest to "get", if you're not into that kinda music.

I'll try to get a track listing and an image of the cover that I've made soon.

Enjoy!

Argh the download crashed twice, this is really pissing me off.

What's the difference between the two files?

Invader Zim

Having dowloaded the larger of the files, i was shocked to find that there was not even one Levellers track, and no Manic Street Preachers, the two definiative British leftwing bands of the past decade.

It was like buying an alternative metal compelation and having no Tool.

Good stuff chief.

Well no those bands weren't included but did you try suggesting/sending any songs from these artists? Now can you get past that they weren't included and listen to what was included? I don't think MDC was included either nor were the Adjusters and I'm sure I could come up with some others however I think Victor did an excellent job. You can never please everyone and you should never try to do so.

On a side note, can anyone suggest a good m4a player???

The stuff I have does not recognize them.

Yes

I have, some of its pretty good, some of its not too my taste, which is just the way compelations are.

Exactly... I'd like to see more people here make up some mixes and make them available.

I agree.
I'm glad that (some) of you enjoyed it.

I didn't add The Manic Street Preachers because the songs you recomended sucked, IMO.

I may compress it further and make it available again in the near future.

Yet you included Billy Bragg??!?

I would make some of my own music available, but there is a significant differance between downloading and distributing. You are significantly more likley to get your self getting shut down doing the latter. Or even worse getting che-lives shut down, as that would be the medium for distribution. Of course that didn't stop me getting your mix :P, but the risk is certainly one I am not prepaired to to take.

I've heard a total of five songs by Billy Bragg.
His Internationale is great, but he didn't write it. If I had found another version in English it's likely that I would've opted for that instead.
The Red Flag is pretty bland. I don't dig it at all.
Ballad of a Spycatcher is pretty bland as well.
The Marching Song of the Covert Battalions is okay. It has really great lyrics. A bit bland as well, though.
All You Fascists is a lot different from his other stuff, which may be due to Wilco's participation. It's pretty cool.
He's deffinitely not my favorite folk musician, but he's not bad.

The Red Flag isn't his song either but I like it!! that's Dick Gaughan joining him on the vocals, and Ballad of a Spycatcher while he does sing on it is a Leon Rosselson song. I'd have gotten you some others but I lent my BB stuff to a friend so I don't have it just the soft copies of a few songs. Look for "Help Save the Youth of America".

I got to see him live and it was quite a good show just him and his two guitars one acoustic and one electric. The first half of the show acoutstic seconfd half electric and he played for almost three hours in a hot place without decent air conditioning. It was a great show the age of the audience ranged from around 8 to 80, it was very cool. He stuck around afterwards and chatted with people signed autographs and did pictures too.

I'd love to download it....but my computer's full almost as it is.

May I suggest splitting it into several <80minute playlists and uploading those? So we can download one, burn it to CD, remove it from our computers, and download the next? I'd definately get it then.

I myself am working on my second punk CD and will try to make both as available as possible as soon as possible (which will take some time as I've got a lot of space to fill on the second one).

I want to hear these as well.

You should really hear "The Equaliser" or "Washington Bullets" (maybe even "Charlie dont Surf"...I know, I'm obsessed) by the Clash, if you haven't. Amazing songs, but they may take some time to grow on you.

Why don't you just use a bittorrent?

I mean granted you'd have to find a place to upload it to, but there're still plenty of torrent sites that wouldn't care

torrenting would be faster and you'd get less junk
