Not too bad. going to a classical college-prep school in the heart of the bible belt, and in the middle of one of the most right-wing counties in my state, a few people know hwo he is. Ok, my teachers ask me why im reading about communism, and 2 kids knew who he was. Some other ones did, but they pointed at him, and said he was a pshyco running some pshycho country. In response, i tell them that lots of pshyco people run pshycho countries (referring to Bush, as many got the pun). they just told me im stupid. right.
When people ask me, I say he was a revolutionist in Latin america. Saying Communism, or mentioning marx automatically triggers a warning signal in their head, so using selective vocablary I try to explain. Good luck to ya man.

About 5 years ago when I was in high school, my Global Studies teacher, who was Irish, was teaching our class about Communism and the Soviet Union. He happened to mention Fidel Castro and Che leading the Cuban Revolution and trying to introduce their Marxist ideas to the rest of the Third World, blah blah. Well, to make a long story short, one of the kids asked who Che was and the ignorant Irish man responded..."He was a Spanish revolutionary in the 1960s who helped Castro form the "new Cuba"..in other words, he was another stupid political figure trying to get attention." How ignorant is that?? The point is that most of the kids didn't know who Che was in our schools b/c of the fact that these fuckin' ignorant American teachers only taught us the values of America and the other super powers of the world. And I'm from a very ethnic urban neighborhood of Queens, New York City. In all 4 years there, there was not one person who knew or supported Che, which is sad because 80 percent of the students there were Latinos. As for today, I don't go to college so I wouldn't know. But everyday out in the streets, I see these teenagers who are into the latest hip hop ghetto thugged out style wearing Che shirts and it really angers me b/c I know that more than half of these ignorant kids don't really know who Che Guevara is. They're just wearing the shirt because it's "cool."

Wowww, you again, always have something ignorant to say. When did I ever say that all Hispanics know all of Spanish world history???? When??? Can you point that out??? If you read with your mind open, you would have seen this:
The point is that most of the kids didn't know who Che was in our schools b/c of the fact that these fuckin' ignorant American teachers only taught us the values of America and the other super powers of the world.
That was my whole point.
Did I ever say that all Spanish people know who he is or know all of Spanish history??? No, I didn't. And what the hell do you mean "how many are Cubans?" What does that have to do with anything??? Who's to say that Cubans should know everything about Che Guevara, just b/c he was a huge figure for their country??? He's a LATIN AMERICAN hero...the last time I checked, Cuba DOES NOT define all of Latin America, buddy. I'm gonna fill you in some factual statistics... the majority of the Cubans of our generation don't care about their country's revolutionary and political history, believe it or not. Such ignorance, lemme tell you. It's like you just want to write asinine things to just get attention or something. Please read the posts with an open mind before writing senseless crap. Comprende, amigo?

"In all 4 years there, there was not one person who knew or supported Che, which is sad because 80 percent of the students there were Latinos"
Why is it sad? You didn't say it was sad that 80 percent of your school didn't know who Che was, but your purposedly put that 80 percent of the students were latinos and noone knew and that was sad. Meaning the ethnicity added to the sadness of the situation. Which brings me back to just because Che was latin american doesn't mean that any or all latinos at your school would know who he is. I'm black and i'm pretty sure that there are some heroes that i have yet to discover. Just because he is a latin american hero(latin american) doesn't make him a latin american hero(a hero to all of latin america)!

You really don't know how to explain yourself, man. I'm having a fucking annoyingly terrible time trying to understand your point if there is one. You didn't have to point out that you're Black b/c it is obvious just by what you're trying to back up, which is just a whole load of nonsensical bullshit.

Just because he is a latin american hero(latin american) doesn't make him a latin american hero(a hero to all of latin america)!
What the FUCK does this mean!?! Are you seriously that ignorant? You obviously don't read much about Che..because in every book he is considered a Latin American hero...he delt mostly with Latin America, buddy. Yes, he went to Africa to spread his revolutionary ideas, which was a big mistake because they just laughed at him. Please try reading every detail about who Che was to his people before saying something like "Just because he is a latin american hero(latin american) doesn't make him a latin american hero(a hero to all of latin america)!" You don't see Latinos yelling out that the revolutionaries of the Black Panther Party were heroes of all races. You don't even see them talking about them either. Your point is like that of a broken pencil's...pointless. I'm not saying that only Spanish people should support Che, I do encourage every other race to support him but to be aware that this man was of the Latin American people...And it's important that Latinos should know about Che because it's just an historical significance to the culture of Latin America just like George Washington is to the Americans, just like Stalin is to the Russians, just like Mao Zedong is to the Chinese and certainly just like Malcolm X is to the Blacks.
I'm sorry, but one thing I hate is that Black people, Asian people, and even White people, who support Che, abuse the perception that "he was the hero/idol of all races, not just Latinos." You don't know what it feels like to be Latino. I don't know what it feels like to be Black but I bet you if you were to see me wearing a shirt that says Black Panthers and trying to preach/argue that Black Panthers were of all races ...you wouldn't appreciate that too much now would you?

United States is a country, Russia is a country, Latin America is not a fucking country. you cant say mao is to china what che was to latin america. thats like saying mao was to asians what che was to latin americans. and i doubt all asians were to know who mao was. or expecting every black to know who nat turner is, alot of people in africa know who nat turner is.
And to your last comment, if you did a little research on black panthers'
"The Panthers followed Malcolm's belief of international working class unity across the spectrum of color and gender, and thus united with various minority and white revolutionary groups. From the tenets of Maoism they set the role of their Party as the vanguard of the revolution and worked to establish a united front, while from Marxism they addressed the capitalist economic system, embraced the theory of dialectical materialism, and represented the need for all workers to forcefully take over the means of production."
If you respect what the panthers, or what any black revolutionary was trying to accomplish then why would i get mad?If you are also against racism, sexism and discrimination and are in the fight to abolish it then why would i care? That's your ignorance showing.

You didn't answer my quesion...would you appreciate me wearing a Black Panther shirt and argue/preach that the Black Panthers were of all people???
I admit that I really don't know much about Black Panthers because I prefer to know more about my heritage like most people do, but as matter of fact, I know enough about them to support my case. You obviously don't know too much about the Black Panthers because if you were to continue reading the information from the source of your Malcolm X quote -- "No party member will commit any crimes against other party members or BLACK PEOPLE at all, and cannot steal or take from the people, not even a needle or a piece of thread." Why doesn't it say..'or SPANISH people, ASIAN people, or any other minority group??' Because of the simple fact that they were more for their "Black people/Black pride/Black heritage," which is absolutely not wrong. It's a part of heritage, man. And also read this:
"Whites who come into the black community with ideas of change seem to want to absolve the power structure of its responsibility for what it is doing, and say that change can only come through black unity, which is the worst kind of paternalism..... If we are to proceed toward true liberation, we must cut ourselves off from white people..... [otherwise] we will find ourselves entwined in the tentacles of the white power complex that controls this country." --Stokely Carmichael (Prime Minister of the Black Panther Party)
What does that tell you again??? Exactly my point.
^^What are you talking about here, man?? Did I ever say Latin America is a country, no.....you can compare Mao to China what Che was to Latin America because it's heritage - Chinese heritage, American heritage, Spanish heritage, Black heritage, Asian, Russian, Indian, European heritage, etc..it's all heritage. That's what my point is. Knowing your heritage is essential to all people because of the simple fact that your heritage is a big part of your identity.
And lastly:
If you respect what the panthers, or what any black revolutionary was trying to accomplish then why would i get mad?If you are also against racism, sexism and discrimination and are in the fight to abolish it then why would i care? That's your ignorance showing.
I really don't understand what was this for....

In my school, people know who che is...but mostly what they've hear. none of them care enough to actually look it up. But one time I did get into a fight with this guy who was convinced Che was Mexican... hmm I remember that day so clearly. He was Jewish,
wore a blue trench coat that a friend of mine pissed on just a few months before (drunken niiight loonngg story), had long blond hair, n went by the name boa. I was reading the motorcycle diaries and he came up to me smoking a phillie, looked at my book, and started screaming Revolution....and asking me why I admired Mexicans, then he asked me if I was Mexican. Then he contiued on screaming Latina Explosion untill finally a gang of mexicans got mad and stuck him in the garbage can

Wooww, such ignorance plagues America today. Yeah, I know how you feel when they refer to Latin culture as Mexican. It pisses me off. I had so many fights while growing up in school, all because of ignorant Americans calling Spanish people Mexicans, Chijuahuas, Borritos, etc..We don't need this shit!

Yeah, and you shouldn't have to put up with it. You would think after how far we come along in this world as people, everyone should have respect for others' culture.
