Have you guys heard of this? An Italian journalist for a Communist newspaper was kidnapped in Iraq. I just heard about it earlier today on CNN. They showed people demonstrating in the streets in Italy. I couldn't find any reports from today on the Internet, but I found this report from February 4th. Anyone know anything more about this? Or the Communist groups in Italy?

Well I saw this in the news, but they didn't mention that she was a communist though I did wonder when I saw the images of red flags in the demonstration  . But really, when you look at the whole picture, I would not even deem this newsworthy. I rekon that dozens of Iraqis are killed or seriously injured every day as a direct result of the occupation, so why white-man's problems in Iraq are covered in the media, but not the problems of the Iraqi's is beyond me....

I agree.
I don't think their political ideology has anything to do with them being captured or not. They will not neccisarily be treated differently. Especially a communist.

The militants will catch and kill anyone if they think their message is being recieved more in the west. The political stance of someone isn't going to make much difference yet i fear a communist may be treated even worse than someone from most western countries apart from the US ofcourse. Lets just hope the guy gets out ok.

I wasn't trying to say that the reason they captured her was because she was a Communist. And I agree, they should cover the problems of the Iraqis more and the what's happening to the occupying forces less. It just made me wonder about the Italian Communist groups, someone in another thread also mentioned that there's a strong Leftist movement in Italy, so after hearing about this journalist I decided to see what you guys think of the Leftist movement in Italy. I did not mean to take attention away from the Iraqis who are suffering from the occupation.

Well actually there seems to be abit of leftist activity in europe at the moment. The socialists got into power in Spain and iv'e heard about some activity in germany lets hope italy follows the trend but this time with a good old fashioned revol :P
