linux is open source. It belives that if you make a good program then it should be for everyone that wants to use it for themselves. It is called the open source movment. "For the people, by the people"

No, this is the free software movement. "Open Source" is an attempt to market the "bazaar" (vs. "cathedral") method of software development to businesses. These two should not be confused. The free software movement is political; open source not.
