Did u know that Dee dee ramone was a member in the argentinian communist party? and one day i heard that Joey Ramone was an active republican. This is supposedly one of the reasons that made Dee dee quit, but now over to my question. does anybody here like the ramones?

That is complete innaccurate - DeeDee was rabidly anti-communist, bording on hysterical.
Johnny Ramone once famously quipped "All punks should be apolitical or right wing."
Fuck the Ramones. I plan on stealing their chord progressions and doing it better.

The Ramones suck. They were fucking boring. They may have played punk rock a few months before the Pistols, but the Sex Pistols were the first real punk band because they were fucking interesting.
The Ramones were a boring overrated band, and their political opinions make me like them even less.

Actually Johnny was a right winger,Joey was a "liberal democrat" (still right wing to us), and Dee Dee I dont really know. Still they had some great catchy songs and I enjoy alot of their stuff.

Agreed. Which is why we need to steal it, and, er . . . clean it up a little. :)
The world needs more politically conscious pop, damn it!

I agree with you guys about the Ramons sucking and being boring. They are probably one of the most overrated bands of all time.
There were way better bands who were around the same time they first formed.

And whoever the hell owns the rights to their music has been selling it to retarded ass commercials like fucking hotcakes in the past 3 or 4 years.

Love the Ramones. The songs are mostly owned by record labels. They maybe have rights to a few things. Now that half the band has gone to play elsewhere. . .
Anyone that says the Ramones suck has never seen them live. They were the real deal, I have seen probably upward over a thousand punk bands, not to mention other music, and they always put on an awesome show a real stage presence, no matter where they were. You would hear the howl of "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" soundtrack over the loud speakers. All would be dark, and then they would magically appear standing tall and proud silent and still over the audience.
No talk nothing, just one two, lets go and just non-stop driving sheer force of one song after another for at least an hour before they spoke to the audience. They had a very strong work ethic and worked and toured tirelessly so they didn't have the best patience with people towards the end. Basically they worked their asses off and got no respect from the recording industry, even when they sold like hot cakes in Japan.
They were very cool to their fans though, I had my issues. Dee Dee was cool and spent some serious time dicussing cars with a disabled friend of mine until Johnny or Joey, I think it was Johnny threw him out even though he was a well known singer in the punk scene because he was mentally disabled and that reminded him of all the drugs he had done.
They also refused to meet with me once because I was a female and therefore they assumed I was a groupie which really pissed me off because even Bo Diddley around that time would talk to me about music.
But I was saddened when Urge Overkill stole their act and tried to replay it using the clothes/getup of another group that was playing with the Ramones at that time. The drummer for the band they stole the costume ideas from sat there next to me during their set and named the song they stole every chord progression from all Ramones. They have had a lot of imitators
But that's the music biz.
There is a hard hitting quality to the Ramones and Punk Rock in general that really gets the ire up like nothing else. Very good in traffic in a large city.

I still like their music, despite the fact that one of them was a republican.
So what?

I can't imagine how the Ramones could be considered overrated, they never got much more than a cult following. But they did have the respect of amny of their contemporaries.
Yeah they were basically apolitical but I hear people rave on and on about various apolitical artists all the time on here, some have even suggested that politics doesn't belong in music.
As for them being boring... like Pandora said you never saw them live then. And they were a huge influenece on early punk including the brit punk movement

I think I'm kinda neutral.
Concerning punk rock, I rented a Sex Pistols DVD, and they're great. But I have a question(which is very silly I guess..)why did a member of the group wore a T0shirt with the nazi symbol on it?

The Ramones, Sex Pistols, the Clash and all those bands are good comercial punk. They gave us great songs and gave birth to better and more aggresive Anarcho-Punk bands.
The Ramones or Sex Pistols could never be compared to the CRASS, OIPOLLOi, RETAQUE, LEFTOVER CRACK and other great AnarchoPunk bands.
They truly understand the meaning of punk and ANARCHY. They spread the right ideals against capitalism, facism, racism and homophobia.

please don't lump in Leftover Crack with anything remotely good, their strident sloganeering makes them the same kind of bland hamfisted debutantes that Anti-Flag are.

If you like the Ramones, look up the Dead Boys, they had a ten times more powerful stage presence as obvious in the 1977 at the CBGB dvd. Also if you into the old punk dont forget Richard Hell and the Voidoids, all those guys were better then the Ramones, but dont bag on the ramones because they were republican, there songs werent about killing communists.
The Ramones or Sex Pistols could never be compared to the CRASS, OIPOLLOi, RETAQUE, LEFTOVER CRACK and other great AnarchoPunk bands.

I do NOT think ALL punk sucks, but most of it does, and those 2 links I put up show that punk is not always the "revolutionary" thing most people pretend it is, and instead it's full of posers, non-"revolutionaries" and gives anarchism a bad name.
