A Socialist in a Capitalist society

So... You live in a Capitalist society, though your a socialist... Is it ok for one that believes in social/economic equality to take part in the capitalist society based on "dog eat dog" and "status quo". By that I mean if your socialist I assume your apart of either the worker/poor or middle class being used as fuel for the rich. But by also allowing to be used in this means are you not supporting the society? or is it that we need to in order to survive?

Another question would be: would it be ok for one that believes in socialism to participate in the ways of the society, in order to climb the "ladder of capitialism". From there one can have more power over it and have a better chance of changing it, if you haven't went over to the "dark side" yet, for lack of a better word. Instead of a violent change, where it would finally give the current controlling idealists (or materialists I should say) the reason to destory us.

you would be hard pressed to find ways of climbing the ladder of capitalism without stepping on or destroying other people's careers. i don't think that you would get very far. as john lennon said, you have to learn how to smile as you kill if you want to be like the folks on the hill.

The problem many have with leftists getting into positions in the capitalist structure is fear that their integrity may decline. This is a understandable and notable worry, but it's something we must face every day!

Living in a capitalist society, our integrity is under attack constantly. By society, by media, by policy. You have to be strong if you're to undergo a challenge as such.

You need to realise that if you wish for revolution, then making a compromise and living a nice neat little life in capitalism is against the ideas we fight for - obviously you must work to live, etc. but compromising your goals in order to get a raise, etc is most definitely not ok in my opinion.

I'm not sure about you guys, but am I the only one who realises that you have to have a relatively good amount of money to purchase the means to carry out a revolution? Maybe there's something I'm not getting here. Will the protests eventually force the capitalists to the "good side?"

Not that I agree with the CoE.
