This was probably already posted but did anyone find any information on the new Che movie coming out this year? All I know is Benicio Del Toro plays Che.

The additional details that i've heard are that Benjamin Bratt is playing Fidel Castro, It's being shot in South America (Not sure what countries), and it's going to be in English. I like Benicio as Che, but not having it in Spanish is a mistake. Also, many valid arguments can be made that having an American movie about Che is just wrong from the start. However, if it can educate people about Che's beliefs and achievments, it might worthwhile.

Are you refering to "The Motorcycle Diaries"?
all I've heard about it is that
1. Walter Salles directs
2. José Rivera wrote it
3. It's about the year Ernesto took off of med. school to travel South America with Alberto Granado
I haven't seen it being shown in cinemas, but I assume it'll be released for VHS/DVD soon

I believe he was talking about the movie set to be released this year simply titled "Che" (as of now anyway) and starring Benicio Del Toro.

However, my parents saw the Motorcycle Diaries and said it was fantastic. I'm eager to see it, and I like the idea that it is in Spanish.

The whole fact that it's gonna be in English already turns me off.

I'll be surprised if this movie isn't anti-Che (or at least what he believed in) somehow.

Well i hope there is a film about Che coming out. As i hope it will educate people about his beliefs..in an non capitalist biased view. Maybe my parents will understand why i believe communism.

Yes, I'm very interested in how they'll portray Che as well. I was looking at Benicio Del Toro's official site the other day, and I think it says that the movie will be based on Jon Lee Anderson's biography of Che. If this is the case, then I assume it will shed a fairly favorable light on Che.
Conservative organizations complained that the Motorcycle Diaries was too favorable of Che's "ideals", so I'm sure some hell will be raised if the same is true in this movie.
But yes, hopefully this movie can educate about the truth, if anything.

I don't like that fact that some of the very people Che hated are making a movie about him, but I'm still going to see it. I also believe that the only reason they are making this movie is to capitalise on people who wear the shirts and I wouldn't be surprised at all if there are a lot of things left out and if they don't explain who he was. I think that all it will be about is the Cuba revolution in vague detail and then about an hour of him being captured then eventually being killed. Well that's hollywood for you.

If it is that watered down, then hopefully it will fail.

That's the first thing that poped into my head as well. How can America make a movie on Che Guevara. A man they killed and hated the guts of. It's almost a 100 per cent certain that their will be anti-socialist propaganda in the film. I rarely see any Hollywood produced movies because it clich'ed crap most of the time, however, Steven Soderbergh is a respectable director so I'm not going to speculate. What is certain is that I will watch this film with a very critical eye.
I've seen The Motorcycle Diaries, and I loved it. It really shows what an amazing person Guevara was.
