Not entirely political I know, but, has anyone else researched their family tree? For the past couple of years I've been researching my mother's side of the familt with my grandfather and we can now trace our family back to the turn of the eighteenth centuary (all miners in the South Durham coal fields.) We've come across a one or two previously unknown facts too, my great-great grandparents were cousins, great-great-great-great grandmother had a child baptised 6 months before she was married and my great-great grandmother did not die in child birth as my great-grandfather always claimed. Does anyone else have any interesting stories to tell?

On my father's side we're supposedly decendants of King Kenneth McAlpine (Scottish clan lineage). And there's some debate about my mother's side. It really depends whether Eva Braun actually married Hitler in secret like some historians claim, or she just remained his mistress. I hope the latter...

My great grandfather used to claim we were decendants of William the Conquer's dentist, hence the family name Dent. But then, my great grandfather used to claim a lot of things...

See, I'm not certain whether people with my last name (which I won't post here)all came from the same lineage. That's the only reason I put supposedly.

I find it very interesting.
Since we arerelated to Queen Mary of Scots there is a chance inheritance. So over the last four or five years my great uncle has been gathering information and researching to find the correct connections to have a law case to get the money. But it has all stoped now for some reason.
So i learn a bit about our family history on my mothers side.

My mother and Uncle have been doing it as a major hobby for something like 15 years, and on my Grandfathers side got back to around 1815.
On one of the other branches as far as the 1700's.

Well, I'm directly related to Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederacy during the Civil War.
I'm pretty sure there were others, but I can't remember.

Guerillablack, i once watched a program on UK television about three black British people who used their DNA to help them track down where in Africa their ancestors originally came from. That could be useful to you and other people of colour (is that term acceptable nowadays?) if they wanted to trace their genetic ancestry.
This is the link to a site about it -

Naw, people of color isn't a term used because its hidden symbolism. It's basically saying white and then everyone else.
I've seen that also but i think they only trace it to certain areas in west africa. what if im not from west africa?I will look into though. Thanks

My great-great-grandfather on my mother's side was a filthy rich russian general and knight loyal to the tzar. He fled to Sweden during the revolution with his family and they where later involved in the so-called Hadjetlaché murders (basicly a group of royalist russians who "judged" and executed bolshjevics in Stockholm in the early 20's).
On my father's side there was one guy who travelled to America (like many swedes "back in the days") and constructed railways there...another on my father's side was a soldier who froze to death just 20 meters from his home (apparently he was drunk...).
Then my grandmother's (my father's mother) brother was a member of the danish resistance during WWII and helped an allied pilot who had been shot down by the nazis (dunno if he was from the UK or USA though).

One of my ancestors was a slave owner, I think named Hezekael Davis (not sure about spelling), but he was apparently burned at the stake, i think by his own slaves. He probly had sex with a bunch of them.
