I read today that Castro wants to ban smoking. About 40 percent of the Cuban population smoke. The goal would be to get the average life expectancy from 75 to 80. Castro is 78.
He also just recently said:
"This country is heaven, in the spiritual sense of the word,'' he said. "And I say (to Bush), we prefer to die in heaven than survive in hell."
On the fronpage of Granma, it says:
Death is a beginning, not an end:
Then they go on and talk about Quintín Bandera.
What I see here is an old man getting increasingly weaker, getting more religious. Maybe he knows his time is up.

I find it funny how he wants to ban smoking but he cant. Cuban cigars rock too much to do such a thing. Even Though fidel quit smoking doesnt mean the country does.

Well, I think he can do whatever he wants and pleases , afterall he has done things much worse than that. But what really amazes me is that he is a smoker himself.
But I don't think Fidel is the first to put such a thing. Didn't the President of Turkimenistan ( or is it Khazakistan, I really am not sure ... ) put a similar law. That really is funny, some president smokes for a lot of years , and then finally manages to give up smoking... and then comes out and bans smoking altogether.
Atleast Fidel had the intention of increasing the life expentancy of his people....

Yeah, those years from 75 to 80 are really terrific and not to be missed at any price.
Especially by the people who get to change your diapers!

Ireland banned smoking in public areas, and similar legislations are in preparation in at least a few other countries. At least Sweden and I think Denmark too.

Will the moderators please escort this rascal to the firing squad? Such outrageous and villainous gossip should not be condoned in this "people's forum" and Castro is of the people.

I figured you guys would want Casto gone. I mean the massive human rights violation by his government don't reflect that well on Communism and the left in general.

The only human rights violations in Cuba are those in Guantanamo Bay.

WTF?!?
Since when was opinion banned? And just because you think that Castro is 'of the people' does not mean that you are so right that people with differing opinions should be silenced.

Aside from the human rights 'violations' (the US would never condone those would they?) some of us here do agree with you.

Castro is hated by U.S. government and some of you here on this forum because he uses extreme (but understandable methods) to bring about socialism in Cuba, Latin America and around the world.
