This should be good. Tim Burton is going to be directing it.

It looks alright. I might see it just because it has Johnny Depp. Ever since I've seen "Fear and Loathing in Las Vagas" I've had a renewed interest in him. I was disappointed in myself that I hadn't seen the movie earlier...I've lived a sheltered life.

I duno it may be good and Depp is a good actor but it won't be as good as the original. Re-makes usually fall short because the directors feel they have to change the story to make it different to the origional when really they don't at all. The book itself was great i really enjoyed reading it as a child, i just hope they don't make a film of the sequal because that book was really strange and not one of his best. Then again if it'l get money those capitalist will do anything, just look at the never ending story.

Dahl was not a fan of the 1971 release. I understand his family is behind the new release. I like the old one but I think Depp and Burton make a good team and this should be an interesting release.

I have no hope for this film. Tim Burton sold out many years ago, the major point in his decline being that awful remake of Planet of the Apes, in which he removed every single point of satire. Even Big Fish was not that good. Despite some creative points, it was clichéd at best and the pacing was bad. So you take this into account along with the thought that Johnny Depp does nothing but crap today (Pirates of the Caribbean and Secret Window anyone?), and the film is beginning to look pretty bad. Besides, if Burton wanted to do a "darker" version of an already near perfect film, he definitely should have went with Marilyn Manson instead.

Well if Dahls family is behind it then it should be good for the type of field it's in. I just hope they don't mess up and ruin the story.

I really think it would be hard to ever match the movie, much less the book! I will see it, but the Original will probably continue to be the better of the 2. READ THE BOOK
And Secret window was probably the worst movie i had seen, until big fish.

oh, i thought this thread was actually going to be about the book.......but yeah, i always like how dahl always made his favorite characters very humble and good-natured and unfortunate. bah, the movie will be what it will be. it might be alright.
but i must agree, what the fuck is mr depp doing with his career these days? secret window was the biggest pile of shit ever. and nonsensical.

I saw the trailer for it. It was the single most demented thing I've ever seen. Looks good though, I like Burtin's style.
