I've just finished reading an article on the Bacardi Rum company. The article was written due to the release in Setember of the book "Bacardi:The Hidden War".

The article outlined some of the various things Bacardi has been up to;

1. In the 1960's, Bacardi boss Jose Pepin Bosch, plotted to bomb Havana and later financed assassination attempts on Fidel Castro

2. Bacardi share-holders including Bosch were involved in setting up anti-castro organisations which sponsor terrorist attacks against Cuba.

3. Bacardi share-holders were involved with supporting Ronald Reagan's dirty war against the Sandanistas in Nicaragua.

4. In the 1990's Bacardi led a campaign to tighten US embargo of Cuba by providing lawyers to write the notorious Helms-Burton law.

I guess I won't be having another Bacardi.
Havana Club only, please.

If my memory serves me correctly, didn't Bacardi also use pictures of Che in its advertisements?

Damned Hypos.

EDIT: Was that them or someone else? I can't remember exactly.

I don't know if they used pics of Che, but they do still claim they're a product of Cuba even though they left after the revolution. I think they produce from the Bahamas now.
Bastards.

they do sneakily put "established in cuba", which is true beacause it was original established there. they put it on recently (i think) in order to cash in on the recent "coolness" of cuba. i dont think its the bahamas, i think maybe they produce from the dom. republic.
i dont think they used the picture of che, i think it was absolut, or some other type of vodka. korda (the photographer) sued the company, then donated the money he won to some type of cuban hospital fund or something.

Yeah, I think it was Absolut, they have a lot of supposedly "offbeat" advertisements like that.

But It's good you posted this, I'll try never to buy Bacardi again, I don't like the taste anyway. Chicks seem to like it, but hey, they'll drink my commie drinks or they'll drink nothin' ;)
