Just wondering what do people on here think of them. I've noticed the majority of music sems to be aimed towards the likes of RATM or the Manics, so how do Radiohead compare to them?
Personally i think there one of the best bands ever.

They're one of my favourite bands, but they're not the best ever.

Here (http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_BAND.asp?band_id=290# keyalbums) there are 4 MP3s for you to download. Those are not their best songs though.

Radiohead is a great band, but they did not copy RATM or the Manic Street Preachers as they all came on the scene around the same time. I dont particularly care for RATM, but if you do like Radiohead you should check out the Pixies. Their songs Wave of Mutilation, Dig For Fire, and There goes my gun are amazing songs.

Repetitive? Wouldn't "monotonous" be a better word? But still some of their songs like "Karma Police", "Exit Music (For A Film)", "2+2=5" and (to an extent) "Paranoid Android" aren't.

Radiohead rocks!
I preffer the more experimental stuff like OK Computer, Kid A, and their latest album, Hail to the Thief. The mainstream-ish stuff is cool too, though.

I love Radiohead. I think they are brilliant. Thom Yorke has one of the best voices ever. His voice is haunting and yes depressing but I still love it.

The bends is a great album but they went downhill from there.

Yeh i'd agree but not that far down hill they are still amazing. their music may be depressing but its more beutiful than anything else. Paranoid Android is so good.

Ive got all their albums from Ok Computer on....with Kid A being my favorite. Really great band, but I have to be in a certain mood to listen to them. Thankfully those moods dont come about so frequently, else I may have shot myself by now. Really depressing music.

Radiohead, one of ma favourite bands. I came to know them through their song "Fake Plastic Trees." Anyways, they really do ROCK!! and sound like Coldplay too.

Coldplay = Meh...
Radiohead = Very good.
However, if you like radiohead but think it is a little "soft" you should listen to Tool. Their style is kind of the same, only that Tool is heavier and their songs are more like symphonies than normal rock songs... Exceptionally good.

I agree with you on that one.
Not only do I think this, but I find most of their music to be quite boring.

Well ofcourse your entitled to your opinion but they arn't boring their music gives alot back if you just take the time and get to know it. Long live Radiohead.

Radiohead are cool, if for no other reason than there lead singer has a really scary eye, which didn't open for the first few years of his life

Radiohead is the shit. Nobody else can get away with making a song that has you sing along to being a creep.

radiohead is indeed the shit, though they have far better songs than creep.

Yes they do what would anyone say is their best song? Personally i'm split between paranoid android, karma police or well nething off the Bends really.

Karma Police OR Pyramid Song OR There There.
I never liked Paranoid Android as much as I'm supposed.

My favorite is probably "Optimistic".
October Revolution
6th February 2005, 19:32
Oh i think it's fantastic like a rock opera but not cheesey. Saying that there there is one of their best songs is pushing it abit, ok it's good but nothing compared to the likes of the Pyramid song or Ideoteque

Sit Down, Stand up is one of my favorites. I have no idea why.

A creep and a wierdo, mark you ;)
Of all the stuff they've done, one of my favourite tracks is a small repetitive number tagged onto the end of the Romeo and Juliet film - "Talk Show Host". It's just one of these songs that stick in my head... I also love "Polyethylene" - it's one of these tracks that you can hear the progression from Pablo Honey to OK Computer throughout the entire thing: Wonderful.
Without question though, their best song is "Banana Co". However, those of you who don't like their music - who consider it repetetive - I suggest you try to get a ticket to the next gig they do near you. Live, it's a totally different experience - just try to get them at a real venue, not a damned statium or exhibition centre.
I'm not especially enamoured with their new "style" of pseudo-electronica... but it has some merit. At least it doesn't sound as bad in barn-like venues as most rock.
October Revolution
17th February 2005, 16:50
Banana Co. is that off a single or something because it's definatley not on their albums.
Their new electronic stuff is really good it's just that the songmanship isn't quite as good as The Bends or Ok Computer. Saying that some of their best songs have that electro vibe to them... Ideoteque need i say more.

I have Banana Co. here on my PC, it's on an EP if i'm not wrong

Ahh so what's it like? up to the standards of their album stuff.

18th February 2005, 03:35
Just "average" I'd say. It's nice but not great. Acoustic and with a good vocal melody.
I have downloaded many of their b-sides and EPs. If you're interested I can send them to you.

Get shareaza (shareaza.com) - I'm getting 110kbps downloads where normally I can only manage 30-40kbps! Its fucking brilliant!
Radiohead are good, but they've put a weird type of copy protection on Hail to The Theif that means that I can't rip the tracks onto my mp3 player(...fucking retards..... )

wft
are people jsut copying and pasting other peoples posts?
first if you don't like real rock (kids that doesnt mean pop rock like blinky and good charlotte), then you aint gonna like radiohead, or oasis, libs anything in that genre - dont sit in this thread.
boring? i dont get that? TV can be boring, how can music? it can be crap, but how can it be boring? people seem to accept opinions and let them pass from their ears to their mouths with no proccessing inbetween.
Radiohead are an unbelieveably exceptional band, you can not jsut listen to one song, you have to listen to all the albums.
And complaining that things go down hill from the bends? wtf, do you have no understanding of progression?
After creep was so widely succesfull, they didnt want to be known as a one hit wonder, so they come back with what is widely regarded as one of the finest albums ever produced, and thats not just by people in the same genre, its far and wide.
They mastered that scene with their second album, who can blame them for moving on?
All the albums are so different, it is like comparing different genres in some senses, they really cant be compared to each other. And you cant blame them for trying something different.
I can't see how its depressing either? what did you lsiten to one song, that didnt sound upbeat? If you want upbeat listen to happy hardcore or something.
Or did you hear something about being in pain in one song?
cause i mean, god forbid that someone should sing about something other than jesus, drugs or high school crushes!
general suggestion: try things for yourself then form your own opinions

Love Radiohead because of the level of depth in their songs and the way that Yorke spins layers upon layers, that's why he repeats stanzas, because he is layering the depth like a funnel. Dark stars by the Grateful Dead were pretty amazing too :o although the Southern rock crap left me flat. Thelonious Monk, *****es Brew by the man, Marvin Gaye, anything that has levels and depth that peers into the soul is good.
Yea, it's depressing, so is the inside of the human heart, until it opens. That used to be the main point of Radiohead, there was always the opening, but then the loss again, like French cinema
I like a lot of their stuff but the song to that damn movie, as they pretty much refer to it was orchestrated probably the most succinct in succeeding in building and acheiving tempo and a true breakthrough. They have had several similar, but not to the same extent.
Cheers all and good night, enjoy the almost full moon :D
