I have a cousin who has recently arrived back from a holiday in Cuba...
He chatted to a few of the locals in Havana & they told him that Castro has lost touch with the people.

They said that the economy is now on a backwards slope downhill to the batista era.

But most of them understand that its the fault of the wicked American trade embargo...

also,
They have the best doctors in the world but no medicine to aid their patients...
This is all due to the American trade embargo, which subjects people to poverty & sub-standard living conditions...

Its about time this wickedness ended...

It's definitely time for a big change and I think it will happen very soon. We'll be tracking all aspects of it I'm sure.

I thought they lifted the trade embargo. Well, maybe I was wrong.
It sucks how they have the best doctors but not enough medicine and supplies.

Fidel was doing GREAT when the USSR was still around, then the Cuban Utopia was becoming a reality, but now that they are gone Cuba has to fend for it self, and I think they have done exeptionally well even with the embargo.

MitRS - American isolationism ended with Pearl Harbour. Where have you been the last 60 years??

Onto the subject, Castro has lost touch with the people as most men his age has. Move aside and let a younger person take over.

It's not like the US is giving Castro much to work with.

And here I was thinking that the Domino Theory was disproved 30 years ago.

Yeah, I think that Fidel has lost touch with the people. But that happens whenever the power stays in the hands of the few.

Well the relationship with the Soviet Union had benefits but also brought many problems. It caused what cubans in government now call russification. Stalinist institutions. And detached the leadership from the people.

That is why in 1986 Castro and others embarked on what was called the rectification where they tried to destalinise.
