Castro in the 1960 tried to jump start the sugar industry. He achieved record harvest, but he did not meet his economic targets. This was a classic centralized project. It also stripped other industries of resources, mostly labor. House wives, teachers, doctors, and forgein volunteers all worked to jump start the industry. How is it doing to day and how does it fit into the rest of the economy? Where does Fidel's central control over this project fit into communist doctrine?
