Hi I am young and curious. I am interested in boardening my understanding of Marxism and this looks like a good place :) I consider myself socialist but i need to learn more.
Hope my questions are welcome (there will be a lot), sometimes I'll play the devil's advocate because it is just how I learn.
I have been lurking here for awhile, and people seem really cool, so I look forward to posting more often.

The Word Socialist has a broad useage, hopefully you will be able to narrow that down as you learn.
I'm personally a "Non-Leninist Marxist".
You have alot to learn, trust me. If you feel lost when us Marxists talk, you might want start reading some Marxist theory, good books to start would be "The Communist Manifesto" and "Das Kapital: A Critique of the Political Economy".

That's what I am hoping I can do here, learn enough to narrow it down more. However I know enough to realize that capitalism doesn't help humanity and that a planned economy would greatly improve many people's lives.

Definitely! I don't have some illusion of knowing everything
I have read some of each, though I have been unable to really read through them because of school and other things. But i found Marxists.org to be really helpful in understanding terms and other theories.
Thinking about it more, I might take more of a "sponge" approach instead of just bombarding you all with questions. Try to absorb what I can, and only ask questions if I am having trouble with a concept.

I'm not as strong on the economics part as in other spheres of Marxism, but I know my fair share. Yes, Das Kaptal is very hard to get through, so is alot of Marx's other writings, after awhile, you will get used to reading it.

Hullo comrade! One piece of advice - unless you've got a lot of time on yr hands, don't dive into Das Kapital . . . I recomend the much shorter (I read it while waiting for a bus, actually) "Wage Labour And Capital" which explains Labour Theory of Value in a much more straightforward manner . . . then when you read Capital, you can skip a few hundred pages, haha.
If you dig reading online, I recomend poking around www.bopsecrets.org - a lot of it will make you think "Hey, what if Marx's corpse hadn't rotted well before the advent of mass post-industrial culture?"
