The book, as those who have read it will know, is set in the 'Depression' in America in the 1920's/30's. It follows the story of two migrant workers with the dream to live on their own plot of land.

The story deals with dreams of Americans, and mainly 'The Great American Dream' of 'freedom' and 'prosperity', etc. It shows how people were so often let down by the nature of society they lived in.

I am wondering how appropriate a book like this is for today, or if any connections can be made between its world and modern day America.

It is set during the late 20's or early 30's, but i think this book is far from being outdated.

The whole concept can be applied in the modern world.

Yes i agree.

There are lots of things in it such as the struggling of the workers to survive against poor conditions and opression from the managers and land owners that are supposed to be giving them work that still apply today, most definatley.
