View Full Version : $1 dollar = 4 people's food for a week?

My school is setting up a tsunami relief fund. Today they were talking about it on the daily announcements and said that $1 can provide 4 people with food for a week. I was amazed. Why does it take a major disaster like this to provoke people to help? Is millions of people dying yearly from hunger not a problem? It's sad how, even with this knowledge, most of the public still wouldn't contribute if the tsunami didn't happen and will cease to once the tsunami stuff eventually dies down. $1?!? Are you serious people? $20 = food for a family of four for 20 months, that's nearly half a year! People need to get over themselves. It's tragic how people just turn away from the world's problems and show no concern for their fellow man. Everybody on this board needs to donate $1 (at least) to a tsunami fund, it will make a HUGE difference. Spread the word also. THanks.

Good for you. That's a huge amount of money to them and no amount, no matter how small or how large, will go without helping. And hey, half your week's paycheck, that's some dedication there.

What's worrying me is that africa get's forgotten about, this was just a one off event, in africa there are real long term issues.

You're right. The US has ignored the problems in Africa for far too long. Instead of a billion dollars a week in Iraq, our money could have gone to much better use. But that is the price we pay for having a filthy murdering criminal in the White House.

The way the US mainly just flounders its money on medium term problems like Iraq is just obsurd. If it were to put the money wasted on getting its soldiers killed in Iraq onto something such as the African problems it would help greatly, i suppose the US doesn't see it as any of their concern unless there going to get oil out of it.

Also why do most western countries continue to keep this debt up on the third world countries. Places such as the US sure as hell don't need this money they've got plenty and to make it worse theses poorer countries can't even pay of the interest on the debt so how can they ever expect to pay it off. It's just exploitation of the world by the west.

looks like iran is gonna get invaded.... another money pit.

I dont see how Bush spent $40 million on the innaguration, so soon after the tsunami.

If he wanted to do one good thing for once in his life, he woulda sent that all to asia, and just drove down the street. no parties.

But no, hes still a greedy bastard

here is a nice idear

draft a bill in un

' all money that is used to procure, produce, develop or test any arms. explosives, military personel, artillery, veuchles must be matched by the countries aid spending'

ie america spends 10 billion developing a new tank or ship then that amount must be given to a recgonised interntional aid agency

if they have to spend that much to devolpe miltiary power then maybe it will curb devlopment of that crap

entirly unfeasible but meh its jus an idear
