View Full Version : Update about the current status of Lesbos

Lesbos is many things, and Lesbos is a part of all us women, as we all are part of Lesbos. Lesbos is happiness, light, love and free laughter in the rain, strength, discipline, unity and the vanguard of the revolution, Lesbos is a rain-drop on a shell seven thousands miles away, Lesbos is the open fire in a oven in a house where two women are loving each-other, Lesbos is the pure joy in the hearts of two girls who discovered their friendship for the first time...

Lesbos is all that we are, all that we been, and all that we wants to become - Kaylene Mörkberg, Diaries 2004.

Lesbos is considered to be a radical progressive feminist and socialist community, geographically centered in a group of different sites, most often collectives, student corridors, abandoned warehouses and three-cabins, intellectually integrated everywhere, and spiritually centered in the minds and hearts of every woman that lives, have lived and is to be born. Lesbos was founded in the 5th of december 2003 in the Christianya autonomous zone in Copenhagen, but have evacuated it's sites there due to threats from the police, and have taken up agitation in the city of Malmö, on the other side of the Öresund strait. The community is direct-democratic in nature, activist in nature, and based on the philosophy of sexual anarchism. Every member of Lesbos should consider every other member as a sister, and as a lover. Property, neither personal nor private, is accepted within the frames of the community. Only women are accepted as subjects of Lesbos.

Since Lesbos is violently opposed to the state, it keeps is membership closed, even though a shadow council acts to incarnate the spirit of Lesbos. The first shadow council was declared in february 14 2004, and consisted of:

Maria Ekesund
Janna Torvaldsdottír
Marika Freye (excluded in may 2004)
Linda Danielsson
Frida Oscarsson
Malin Sandberg
Linda Marstrand (excluded in may 2004)

This council lasted for about two months, and set up the different collectives and production facilities in a matter of weeks, but it was severely divided on the issue of the transitionary phase in the psychological status of Lesbos. After the council was abolished, Marika Freye and Linda Marstrand hijacked the first headquarters and set up an own council, and invited un-affiliated persons in order to promote their own ideology, called "lesbian socialism", or "freyeism". Though all to liberal in their conclusions, a bitter fight erupted in april and may 2004, and the insurgents where named "enemies of the sappho-aphroditianist communist gender war", even though they countered in the "Amazon! zine" which was under the control of anarchist rebels. In the end confrontation, twelwe of the members of the collective were revealed and excluded from the community. They are still in Copenhagen, even though they moved out from Christiania, and have started an own collective called "Amazonia", distorting the struggle of liberation back to the channels of the male-society. Therefore, the neutralisation of "Amazonia" is a first step in the global sex revolution.

The current status of the new council is not going to be revealed yet, since Lesbos does not make any public claims nor act in public. Officially, we do not exist, and our sites are covered, out of the notion that the imposters at "Amazonia" would launch sabotage actions against us, and try to destroy our infrastructure, as well as out of the fear of being attacked by males that wishes to make us into objects of their sexual frustration and unability to birth children.

Lesbos is growing for every day, as the global war continues to go on, and we have attracted attention from the underground community in whole Scandinavia. We are proud lesbian spirits, and have a strong, unified shadow council, which we are going to chose through consensus yet again in the 14 of february. The identities of the three persons in the current shadow council may not be revealed, due to personal threats targeted against us, as well as our secret war against the commune of "Amazonia".

Lesbos is organised in hoods of five to nine women, which share everything they have within their group, as well as sharing their sexual pleasure together. We live a rich life together, and we have learned that we are not individuals, since all Life is only one Life, and this Life is equivalent with our Holy Mother.

First and foremost, anarchism is, inherently, at odds with the spiritualist bullshit, and essentialist understandings presented by the collective in question. "Lesbos" represents an understanding of sex and sexuality that is narrow and confining, and completely at odds with any sort of sexual anarchism. In particular, an authentic sexual anarchism seeks to break down the dichotomies of male/famle and the relationships between (making the ID-politics of "Lesbos" distinctly out-of-place within the anarchist milieu).
The sad sectarian infighting among antirational petty-lifestylist-ID-warriors, as exemplified by the conflict between Amazonia and Lesbos, reveals the poverty of both analysis and practice within that stupid little scene.

I have the uptmost respect for that organisation, but why did they choose the name 'lesbos'?

I really dont think alot of people will take them seriously... just because of the name.

It's a good illustration of what's called identity politics.

We all have many "social identities" -- we're "part" of many social structures.

In the area of sexual identity alone, for example: male, female, gay male, gay female, trans-sexual, transvestite, dominant, submissive, and probably many others.

Geographic identities: city and region born and raised in, city and region that you now live in, country that you are a citizen of, country that you wish you could be a citizen of, etc.

Education: schools attended, networks of fellow graduates.

Ethnic/cultural/linguistic: many alternatives.

Economic: trade or profession, union, consumer, etc.

Family: mother, father, child, aunt, uncle, etc.

Political: voter, conscripted or volunteer soldier, cop, politician, etc.

And there are probably others that I didn't think of.

Now, which or which mixture of all this do you "identify with" most closely?

When you say to yourself, "I am _____", what do you fill in that line with?

What would make you feel most outraged and deprived if you "lost it" or had it taken from you? Or if it were attacked in a savage and ruthless fashion with the intent to utterly destroy it?

It's a pretty complicated question and doesn't have any "easy answers".

You can see that Ms. Mörkberg is a "lesbian separatist" -- that is her primary identity and that is what forms her political outlook and shapes her political analysis.

Thus she has both adopted and helped to formulate an outlook that places her identity at the center. The further you get from that center, the less she's interested.

And, of course, the less others (who have their own identities) are interested in her.

Now comes the tricky part. If one wants to "change the world" on a major scale, it stands to reason that one would want to appeal to as many "identities" as would be consistent with the kind of changes one wants.

Marginal identities would be of little assistance -- there are not and never will be enough lesbian separatists to have a coherent and measurable effect on large societies...even if all gay women adopted a separatist perspective. (I'm assuming that about 1 to 2% of all women are gay...about the same percentage as for men.)

It was the hypothesis of Marx that the identity of "exploited worker" would come to represent the vast majority of the human species...and that on this basis, a massive transformation of society would be practical.

How important Marx's hypothesis really is can be illustrated with a "thought experiment".

Let us suppose that there are about 65,000,000 gay women (including female children) alive on earth at this moment...and all of them are spontaneously transferred to an earth-like planet in orbit around a distant star (along with, of course, the necessary technology to reproduce their numbers without male assistance).

What kind of society would they build? If Marx was right, it would be a class society...possibly a despotism based on slavery or serfdom, possibly a capitalist society, and maybe even (for a while) a socialist society before devolving back into capitalism.

What they could not do is establish an anarchist/communist society -- the technological base would not be there to support that...and it would take a long time to accumulate enough women engineers and technicians to create that base -- though eventually they would.

They would have a proletarian revolution (all female) and overthrow an exploitative ruling class (also all female).

Thus, in the Marxist paradigm, the identities of "exploited worker" and "exploiter" are more fundamental than even sexual identity.

Of course, we have to keep in mind the possibility that Marx could have been wrong...that sexual, ethnic/cultural, nationalist, religious, etc. identities are really "more fundamental" than "exploited worker" or "exploiter". Indeed, that's a common refrain of bourgeois historians and "identity ideologues" these days.

Ms. Mörkberg's primitivist fantasies (see her thread in the Religion subforum) are irrelevant to all this; nothing of what she envisions the future to be like is even remotely possible.

But there is and will be a struggle over identity...who we really are and what is our place in the world.

There's no getting around that.

Im remotely curious, what are your purposes in posting this, uh for lack of a more appropriate word "stuff?" I mean you cant honestly expect to recruit many people here, even if this site has many different ideologies and beliefs. is it to preach to us and show us our wrongs or simply to vent anger? when i read your first post i wanted to seek shelter in a safe Titanium box. away from your "sensuality." I try to stay open minded to many different beliefs but, uh, kill all men becuase they are evil. ok good luck

This person is a troll, who we are reliably informed has a second account... a second male account.

This "lady" is just trying to give us the run around.

Yes they do.

This isn't feminism.

Feminism is about equality not gender control...

Feminism is essential to socialism and vice versa - but post-feminist ID-politics are not what one would see as authentic, given the wide gap in both theory and practice. An authentic anarchist feminism recognises women within an understanding of class and power relations - not as somehow fundamentally and irreconcilably different. Naturally, this latter view is also held by fascists.
Says sumthin' 'bout the primitivist milieu.

There's a difference between femminesm and declaring women supperior to men. Femminesm's about fighting for equal rights, not superiority.

Equality (socialism) also means equality for genders. Gender control is the opposite of equality.

Enough said.

It would all depend on whether the chicks were hot. Are we talking some 23 year old w/ major league rack and a nice trim job, the let her in the club. Especially into SMBD and roleplay.

On the other hand, if these Lesbos aren't even bi-curious, Lisa, my fiance, would probably have no interest in their circumstance.

Maybe America and GoS should get in touch with one another - they are both sexist idiots who are not only an embarrasment to themselves, but to their gender.
