My uncle (legend) gave me a CD today, "This Machine Kills Fascists - Woody Guthrie" so I gave it a listen and it's an unbelievably cool album. Ain't gonna be treated this way and Rangers Command are amazing tracks.
Your opinions? :D

Ive got a 4 CD boxed set of his....a true legend. I love his songs about the Spanish civil War....his song 'Jesus Christ", and 'The Biggest Thing Man Has Ever Done." Not to mention the fact "This land is your land"is a communist anthem.

I think he was great. One of the most important singer/songwriters EVER! I was recently admonished by RZ for stating that I preferred Woody over Dylan. See: http://www.revolutionaryleft.com/index.php...ic=29215&st=160 (http://www.revolutionaryleft.com/index.php?showtopic=29215&st=160)

Woody Guthrie was young Dylans biggest influence and he played Guthrie covers on his first album 'The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan', he also played to Guthrie on his death bed I think.
Woody was far more political than his son Arlo although he had considerable talent too and rose into the public eye with his seminal album 'Alice's Restaurant' which is also worth a look in.
The only Woody Guthrie album I own is 'Dust Bowl Ballads'.

He is a legend, not my favourate style of legend, but he was a great songwriter, and he inspired dylan among others. He also wrote some great protest songs.
