The Irish Republican Socialist Committees of North America, San Francisco
Bay Area Chapter will host a showing of
Sunday a recent film about the events of Bloody Sunday, in the city of
Derry in 1972. Made at virtually the same time that the film Bloody Sunday
was, but unlike that film lacking in a US distribution deal, Sunday is
almost unknown in the United States. While it tells the same story as
Bloody Sunday, the film Sunday takes its perspective from a young Irish
republican who becomes one of those killed during the attack on a peaceful
civil rights march by British paratroopers. Many of the extras in the film
are drawn from the nationalist community of Derry.
Written by Jimmy McGovern and directed by Charles McDougall, additional
information about the film can be found at its Web site:
http://www.sundayfilm.net/Default.htm .
Date: Saturday, March 5, 2005
Time: 2:30 PM
Location: 2057 15th Street, Suite B
(between Market and Church Streets)
Admission: Free
Snacks and no host bar provided by the IRSCNA
For additional information, email [email protected] .
"I was deeply affected by it. It was a remarkable experience ... the film
brought to life the events of that day in a remarkable way ...
I hope SUNDAY gets the attention it deserves."
