Hey! I finally got a Joy Division CD (they'ev been 1 of my favourite bands for awhile because of Love Will Tear Us Apart). Anyways I got "Substance 1977-1980", I was wondering if anyone knew what the "Appendix" bit is about, it sounds a bit like old demos, any ideas?
Anyways, yea, who likes 'em? Personally I love them thus far. My favourite songs ar Love Will Tear Us Apart, Warsaw and No Love Lost.

They are brilliant, I have that same album.
Fav Songs are Transmission, Incubation, From Safety to Where and Komakino. I usually listen to it to piss my bro off, cos he hates it.

They're tight, even though the only song I've heard by them is "love will tear us apart". It was in the box set of music that mattered from the decade that didn't. BUY IT. It's called "Left of the dial" ;)

Which decade is it on about? 80s or 70s? LWTUA was released on the edge and it was recorded in the 70s or something but released just after he died in 1980 or something...If its a 70s box set I'll look out for it, if its a 80s box set I might consider looking into it.

There is a new film coming out sometime soon documenting the life and Death of Ian Curtis.
It's directed by Anton Corbijn I think who is most famous for being the official photographer for Joy Division and creating their moody atmospheric feel through the press relesae shots, the front cover U2's The Joshua Tree, shots of Kurt Cobain, Jeff Buckley and many other important acts.
Not sure of a release date as of yet though, just google it if you're keen.

New Order is also awesome. The style of music changed though after the death of Ian Curtis and the formation of New Order. Most of it is synth-rock kind of stuff, not the alternative music

Joy Division was a great band. Ian Curtis had a stage presence like no other...maybe its b/c he was ill and would go into seizures. Still Joy Division was key to the Manchester musical movement. Check out the move 24 Hour Party People. You will learn alot about the formation of the band and what this style of music led to.

Joy Division were and are one of the most influencial bands ever to come out of the U.K, second probably only to the beetles. My favourite track is Dead Souls which was covered by NIN on the crow soundtrack. The death of Ian Curtis was a tragedy, yet I ask myself wether their music would have been the same without the darkness of mind that was created by his illness. Had he still been alive today it is imposible to know just how big Joy Division would have been, probably New Order x100. Instead we are left with one complete album and a handfull of demos and partworks. nether the less a glimpse of true genius. Ian Curtis R.I.P.
