I was reading the News paper a couple days ago (forgot to mention it until now) and there's a group of German scientists who wrote a book commending people to become sloths. They say that being lazy actually HELPS you're immune system. Which is a direct contradiction to everything I've learned in Physical Education. They say the reason for this is that some anti-bodies actually work better under a relaxed state.
Another thing they mention is exercise can actually cause heart attacks. They say your body produces more hormones and are more likely to line the arteries and veins.
The rest of their theories seem to come from theoris themselves. Such as the "heart only has so many ticks" type of idea. Or you only have so much "life energy.'
So what does everyone else think on that issue? Do you think the older evidence that good ol' exercise is better than this new evidence?

I dont think it really matters. Diet and exercise people change their opinions every day. But, this gives me a great excuse to be a lazy fatass.

It's the biggest pile of poo I've heard all week.

It probably does. That's why regular exercise helps your body to maintain a relaxed state. Tension and stress build when we don't get enough exercise.
Another thing they mention is exercise can actually cause heart attacks. They say your body produces more hormones and are more likely to line the arteries and veins.
I'm pretty sure that being lazy, clogging your arteries with fat and salt, is more likely to give you a heart attack.
The rest of their theories seem to come from theoris themselves. Such as the "heart only has so many ticks" type of idea. Or you only have so much "life energy.'
This is evidently balls.
And even if it wasn't, it's not as if everyone dies of a heart attack.

These so-called scientists were probably fat and lazy.
Not being active gradually lowers your metabolism. A lowered metabolism makes it harder to burn calories, and the more calories you don't burn, the fatter you get. This fat clogs your arteries after years of being fat and lazy so that once you do exert yourself in activity yoiu have a heart attack. You are more likely to have one if you smoke and and stuff.
Being lazy also increases your chances of becoming diabetic. The chances for this are higher based on your race and family history, but diabetes has become an epidemic as a result of laziness in every group.
There's a lot more stuff that's bad for you as a result of being lazy.

I agree...It's like those scientists who say penis size doesn't matter probably have the smaller penises  .
I just brought it up because it contradicts everything I've ever learned on the subject of health and exercise.
One other thing they mentioned was the risk of "minor" injuries (ie. Pulled muscles, strains, etc) that can lead to more chronic problems down the road. I mean that kind of hits home for me. My back has compacted about 2 inches (probably from football and lifting weights) and I've had a hernia (probably from the same causes). Now I'm almost fearful of going back to the level of activity I was at before.

They [scientists] want to get people fat so they have something to ***** about (I.E. boycotting McDonald's because they think it makes people fat).

There would have to be many studies done before we'd even know if the scientists involved with this study were "on to something".
But I certainly hope they're right!

Very true. And even if some lazy people lived longer, that could only be rare cases. There's always the reverse side of it too; being too lazy. I think there's a happy medium between the two.

hah. actually, this reminds me of a series of debates we had at the end of junior year in AP history class....... one of them was the fitness nut vs. the couch potatos. of course, the fitness nut was right but the couch potatos were just throwing stuff at him like arguments which were ridiculously coherent but untrue. and potato chips.

I'm not ready to call these scientists fat and lazy yet, They might have some valid scientfic evidence for that. But what ComradeChris says doesn't tell us much.

Haha i love it when scientists do studies on the most illogical things and only tell the tiny bits of truth because they make people feel good. Eating more is healthy...sleep causes weight loss...being lazy is good.....certainly says something about our society as a whole does it not?
