Righty, on the advice on 'virgin molotov cocktail', i have decided to post a short piece on my views on various subjects, primarily Imperialsm, after i got restricted for raising a topic about it with a devils-advocate stance.
First though, i shall deal with the important point, the fact that certain members seem to have it in their minds that i hold some form of racist sympathy. I can tell you now that this is wrong.
My post in the 'extinction of racist language' topic, wherein i described personal experience with regards to white-directed racism, does not indicate that i am 'BNP' material, it just signifies that i have had these experiences, and disagree that people should resort to racism to make any kind of point.
In my view, no matter how downtrodden and opressed a people is, it still doesnt give them the right to devolve into racism, which is most likely something that their opressors are guilty of. Racism never helped to free india from british rule, nor to help the plight of american blacks in the martin luther king era.
If anything, racist attitudes from these groups would have incensed the british in India, and given racist americans in the 60's a great weapon to use agains civil rights reformations. Basically i view racism as one of the greatest problems of humanity. Anyone that thinks racism is acceptable is justifying it's use in any situation, because even the richest man can prove that he's opressed in some obscure way. I dont believe in racism, and never will.
That is my basic opinion on racism, anyone with questions with regards to my views on racism (if you want a little more depth), is perfectly welcome to PM me.
Now, with regards to my post about modern-imperialism in africa.
This post was an attempt to stimulate debate, i thought that since i'd put it in the opposing ideologies forum, that i might get some of the more capitalist and right wing members' opinions, and then obviously the opinions of the leftists, perhaps in some kind of civilised debate, but that was obviously a mistake.
I dont think imperialism in africa would be a good idea, i think that some kind of outside intervention is needed (perhaps in the form of mediators and proper aid worker teams) to prevent their governments from turning into corrupt dictatorships (and yes, it does happen, look at Zimbabwe), this in turn would help provide solutions to the continents multitude problems.
I do not believe that a new-colonialism is the way forward, because it would be a step backwards, back to when european countries arrogantly paraded themselves as world rulers, and some how superior races to those they conquered.
My view on imperialism is fairly straight forward. Ancient empires helped to spread technological advancement accross europe, the greeks, romans, etc etc, all helped the advancement of much of the continent. Of course there was the mass slaughter, the genocides and corrupt imperators, and yes, these empires were still all about land and ruling, but they also were explorators, and without the great classical empires, then i believe that the world would be in a less advanced state than it is today.
But ancient empires werent really about politics, more about their own glory, and pretty much indirectly ensured that the names of plato, aristotle, socrates, caeser, aurellius etc etc would live in ad infinitum.
Modern empires were far less innocent in their world-outlook, they were basically mahcines designed to economically benefit the ruling nation, and resulted mainly in the slaughter and eventual 'civilisation' of the local population. This has left its scars on virtually every nation of the world, many of these scars the results for conflicts and certain racial issues today.
So basically, yes, i think that ancient empires had some plus points, and history is now far too vague to really disprove these, yes all empires are not a good thing, but even the worst regime has some plus points, it has too, otherwise it wouldnt exist. Modern empires i totally deplore. They were political and economically driven machines, without any concern for the peoples and cultures they destroyed.
Final point then, I am not an Imperialist racist whatever, never have been, never will be. (my statement on imperialism is not in contrast with my other post, these are my actual views, they were someone elses). It is up to your own judgement as to whether or not you choose to believe me.
If anyone has a problem with anything i've said here, can you either PM me, or present your reasons and questions in a manner that isnt designed to be awkward or discrediting. (by all means discredit my ideas, but do so with your own ideas and logic, not by calling me a liar).
