There are many different versions of The Anarchist Cookbook floating around, each put forth by very different authors. The most popular one, by far, to latch onto this poser-filled phenomenon seems to be one by a figure known as "The Jolly Roger". However the original was printed in the late 60s by a man named William Powell, I believe.

All of the versions I have read seem to be little more than grammatically and philosophically challenged rip-offs of Abbie Hoffman’s "Steal This Book". You could easily find a free PDF version of any mentioned above online, and all are relatively short in terms of literature. In fact, The Anarchist Cookbook reads more like a phonebook listing of bombs, makeshift weapons and dubious plans. Steal This Book has similar sections (similar because many were directly ripped by The Anarchist Cookbook), but also goes into an explanation of general counterculture attitudes and philosophy that many obviously had during its publication in the 60s.

Any book of the sort is easily recommended, not because they are essentially good, but because you won’t really be sinking any valuable amount of time into them. Besides, you will undoubtedly find at least something of interest or entertainment and such pieces do give one the warm, fuzzy feeling of helping to take part in the First Amendment. ;)

From what I've heard most versions of the Anarchist Cookbook (including the original) are very dangerous, not many of the 'recipies' were actually tested and most of them are based on very dodgy chemistry so I'd think twice before attempting to use anything you read.

On a lighter note the guy who wrote the original is now a born again christian who has renounced his former ways, whivh is ironic. There's an article floating about about it if anyone's got the link...

I don't know if it's worth reading, but I'd suggest any dumb nazi try a few of the recipes and see how it works out ;)

Yeah from my understanding, alot of the things mentioned are untested and are very dangerous. Don't even try it.

I have the Jolly Roger version (with additions), it includes misc (out of date) stuff on phreaking as well as bomb making, self defence, how to rip of credit cards etc. Basically it is nothing to do with Anarchism the political theory, but with the common misconception of anarchy as chaos. As such it tells you how to break the law.

I also have a copy of the article mentioned above and it basically says that most of what was in the original was bullshit. It apparently had many obvious flaws (at least to anyone with the slightest chemical knowledge).

My recommendation, do a chemistry course, read a book on lock picking, find out how credit cards work. But first read about anarchy in the learning section of this site.

All the information you might want, is available free from either your public library (or they can get it), or on the Internet.

A book of destructiveness aimed towards teenagers sitting in their basement making bombs which will later blow one of their fingers off. Just great.

These things are fun to read, esp. if you know a bit of stuff already. But don't try any of it. You can blow fingers off, you can blind yourself, you can kill yourself, or you could do the same to others. Have a look at the history of the Weathermen. They went around putting bombs in toliets and similar, but hurt themselves as well.

I never said I was gonna try this stuff, being a pacifist and all. But from what I hear I think I'll just read it on the internet.

It's meaningless, written by people who think Anarchism is about chaos.

Get yourself a book by Emma Goldman, Bakunin or Kropotkin instead.

I had a couple of versions, a re-print of the original, and an on-line version of the 'jolly roger' ....... the jolly roger being really dangerous.....anyone with a basic knowledge of science would know that napalm cant be made like that

I hate that misconception. Often you see or hear it in films and tv where people are like 'chaos, disorder, anarchy!' and so on. It is so irritating.

Yeh and people like the Sex Pistols don't help the image of Anarchism but aslong as people who actually care about politics know what it is what does it matter if a load of pillocks don't.

As for the Cookbook iv'e read some of it and it's nonsense realy... actually some of it is quite funny just because of the terrible chemistry used

Though fun to fuck around with its extremely dangerous. We blew up an old abandoned car and saw it shoot in the air 10 feet. Ive coverd the base of a tree in napalm and watch it burn down faster then you would believe Ive done the fertilizer bomb when I blew up the car I got knocked over and hit my head on the ground from a mis calculation of blast radius. Ive read the book more times then not and I can say STAY AWAY!!!! whatever you do stay away it may be fun to fuck around with but when you nearly burn to death its bad shit.
