Directive 280
19th January 2005, 01:14
Recent events in Latin amerika are showing a resurgence of the Left as never seen before, such as the local elections in Nicaragua, where the Sandinistas gained control of most municipalities and governorships including the big cities of Managua, Leon, Jinotega, and Granada among others., even in the Atlantic coast regions where they weren't exactly "loved". In Colombia despite Alvaro Uribe's "popularity" the Polo Democratico (a coalition of leftist and progressive parties) scored big time in cities like Cali, Bogota, Pasto and even in the paramilitary stronghold of Barrancabermeja. The big winners where also the Colombian Native parties in the southwest regions of Cauca, Narino, and Putumayo that send the traditional liberal and conservative parties packing. And to top it all off, a recent referendum that included a package to privatize education, freeze wages for low income earners, tax basic foodstuffs, and eliminate agricultural subsidies for small land owners and tiny mini plot holders and low wage peasants, and on top of it all to approve subsididies for the big coffee barons to protect them from bankruptcy due to falling coffee prices (instead of co-operatvizing the farms in favor of sole use by the workers as is one of our demands!!!) was defeated in a landslide- (though with such measures, many analists said that even many of Uribe's supportes obviously voted No also)
In Venezuela constitutional president Hugo Chavez defeated resoundly the referendum the opposition had set up in an effort to oust him in a semi-legal way, and in Bolivia the Cocaleros march under popular Native leader Evo Morales, along with the "natural gas" march, forced not only the president to resign, but also the nationalization of the gas industry, though it will still be exported it will no longer be in the hands of the capitalist octopusses!!
Sigan Luchando Camaradas-En pie de Guerra!!
Ni un Paso Atras! "POR NUESTROS MUERTOS NI UN MINUTO DE SILENCIO, SINO TODA UNA VIDA DE COMBATES!!!" :hammer:
