This test sucks, there is no way Nader, Gore or some of the others would ever be ranked as a contendor. At least they are ranked at the bottom.

The sad thing is, I don't remember even having heard of David McReynolds untill today! OK, so I'm not American, but still, seems like I should have known him.

Seems like a pretty stand up guy, but I guess there's no chance he'll ever have a shot at any office :(

My scores ranged from 41 to 62. Compared to lots of you it seems I'm in a narrower range, or maybe in the middle, if that's what it means.

Too hard to interpret.

Often it seems as if we in America live under a two party dictatorship. Of course, this is not true. Third parties do have a viable chance at winning offices. Take a look at the Reform Party, under Perot's leadership he was able to get 19% of the popular vote. This group splintered with infighting between Pat Bucanan and the other top choice. It is just a matter of the general public realizing that it is not the lesser of two evils. People need to quit falling into the same trap that makes them feel as if the country will fall apart if the 'waste' their vote on a third party candidate. The only wasted vote is if the person votes for one of the two parties that have already proved their lack of conviction (the Republicans) or incompetence (the Democrats).

Third parties are death traps in our electoral system. If the general population is moving leftward, it is more likely that the GOP will win an election, simply because there is one election and it will split the left vote in half, giving the one right wing party more votes. If you want your statement to be true, SN, we need a runoff where we vote for the candidate we think represents us; and than a second vote for one of the two top candidates; basically the french electoral system.

That is very true. Its the reason why we need instant run off voting and the elimination of the electoral college.

I posted this test in a number of places before the 2000 election. The funny thing was, people who considered themselves center or center-right often got McReynolds as their first choice.

David McReynolds was the socalist candidate he got only 4,194 of the votes which is less than 0.01%
Harry Browne is a libertarian he got 0.37% of the votes
John S. Hagelin got 0.08% of the votes he was running under the Natural Law Party
Howard Phillips ran under the constitutional party he got 0.09%

Did you know that in Nevada voters were allowed to vote none of the above, as in none of the candidates? That was actually a choice on the ballot

In my state, McReynolds wasn't even on the ballot. Different states have different standards for allowing candidates, which, of course, favors the two party system.

I say that the US needs to repeal the tenth amendment. The hell with "state rights." I want HUMAN RIGHTS.

Buchanan got 0.42%, Nader got 2.69%, Gore got 48.41% and Bush 47.89%

There's no doubt the Us sytem is geared towards the two major parties. The number of signatures third parties have to get to even be on the ballot in some states is obscenly high, after all that signature work their volunteers are burned out for the real campaigning. The Republicrats are, of course, exempt from this and appear on every ballot.

*raises hand* I was one of those people. McReynolds was first, Gore was second and Nadar was third. HEheheheeh...that was a shock. In fact, McReynolds was first for the majority of the people who took the test. Interesting, eh?
