Speaking of money not creating happiness, but I've read that giving money through donations actually increases happiness. If everyone gave away our money we'd be happier than any scale could measure ;) .

Going by the money brings happiness logic in a true communist state with no currency everyone would be depressed all the time.

Yes in psygology you learn that happy memories last and bad one tend to fade away. So new experiences will give you more happy memories. New experiences olso will give you the the feeling that the days last longer. Because your brain is learning totally different stuff.
So if you infest your money in things to do you will be much happier. :D

Money is not a nescessity for happiness there was once a time before money and i am guessing people were perfectly happy then so why not now without money. Just because it is ingrained into us by soceity doesn't mean it will bring us happiness at all.

Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. There is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of its filling a vacuum, it makes one.

An effect of wealth is, quite often, happiness. Not necsesseraly money in itself, but wealth gives the ability to purchase whatever you like, and so, you might become happy.

Money brings power. And power is double edged. For some it brings happiness, for others it brings nothing but depression and responsibility.
Money (our current society in general) has a very hectic lifestyle. Stress is a predominate cause of fatal illnesses. And most people are stressed because of finances. The world would be a better place without money.

Money itself will not bring happiness to people but having it can bring whatever you want and power. Eventhough alot of the time it can bring despair to people and has often destroyed lives even to people who have lots of it. It's not necessary and brings great inequalities about which also causes great unhappiness thats why the capitalist system should be abolished.

The fact that money makes you happy is a capitalist lie.

Only intellectualls like misery, the workers like luxury.

Money is not synonymous with luxery, nor is luxery happiness, even among workers.
I like sleeping in large beds, and I love sex, but I managed to get my large bed rather cheaply, and most people don't pay for sex . . .

Money can be hapiness, but only because of the things it gets.
When you die, would you love to be trapped in an infinite void full of...money? Or things you could buy with money?

Let us put it this way. I do not know if you get happy by having alot of money,
but I do know (all to well) that having no money sucks. In a world like this, where the commoditiezation (<---- is that a word?) is almost total, money is almost everything. Unfortunatly. But you wont achieve total bliss by having alot of money, (even though it might spare you from total misery) we still live in a very alienated climate.

You guys should check out the "post autistic economics review" website, they've got this excellent article that cover this exact subject it's called: "Liveng in an afluent society, it's so more-ish" or something like that. Anyway, It serves as a great argumant in debate with supporters of the staus quo. ;)

Acoording to Maslow's hierarchy of needs human needs can be divided in following way:
Body (Physiological) Needs such as air, warmth, food , sleep, stimulation and activity. The Body needs are biological. These needs can be very strong because if deprived over time, the person will die.
Security (Safety) Needs such as living in a safe area away from threats. This level is more likely to be found in children as they have a greater need to feel safe
Social (Love and Belongingness) Needs such as the love of family and friends
Ego (Self esteem) Needs such as healthy pride The Ego needs focus on our need for self-respect, and respect from others.
Self Actualization (Fulfillment) Needs such as purpose, personal growth and realization of potentials.
So, the money give us the possibility to satisfy the primary body needs. This is essential, because it gives us the possibility to satisfy other superior needs that are rather psychological. Imagine a mother that has no money to feed her children - she definitely cannot be happy.
So, in my opinion, money don't bring happiness. It can only give us the security and stability - the possibility to become happy. That's the capitalist reality <_<
In moneyless society there are other ways to become happy.

IN a capitalist society money does bring happieness, because it brings security and survival, and that makes most animals happy.

So, Lord Layard's thinking goes, by spending 90 hours a week in the office, you may be improving your own income, but you are also causing other people to feel less satisfied with theirs. They may be encouraged to work longer themselves just to keep up, taking from the time that gets devoted to family and community.
Oh my, people's greed and envy are unlimited................... How stupid
